Crazy Climber

I guess I am reluctantly giving EA another shot...

Recommended Posts

Hello

I have made a point not to buy EA games, the whole Madden thing was what got me started but ultimately it was because I felt there games have just turned into total shit over the years. I just got tired of buying so so games for high prices and feeling let down and ripped off time after time. Ad in a few other gripes about the company as a whole and that was that, I decided no more games from Electronic Arts....EVER!!! Well with the exception of one moment of weakness (bought Mercenaries 2, which was bad :x ) I haven't bought any EA games for around 3 years, oh sure, I have wanted a few but I knew they would just let me down so I didn't bother. Dead space for the Wii is horribly tempting but no, I will not give in :D Now the point of my topic, last night I bought Brutal Ledgend ($20 @ Target) I am not sure how I missed this but it is an EA release, had I noticed I would have passed but with my impatient gaming habits I ripped the shrinkwrap off and started reading the manual in the car ride home, only to see the ugly EA label on the front of it :x I am stuck with it now so I am giving it a shot, haven't played it yet but will tonight. I guess this is your last chance for me to come back EA, if this game sucks then I will be done with you forever! DON'T LET ME DOWN AGAIN!!!!! :x :x :D

Am I crazy or does anyone else feel this way about EA?

I don't care either way. One single person's sales definitely won't affect a company in any way. Now if there were several thousand people standing behind refusing to purchase EA stuff (or ONLY buying second hand), well then that'd be a different story.

I've heard some complaining towards Army of Two: The 40th Day, but so far me and my older Brother have been enjoying it. It feels a bit different in a few places compared to the original but it's mostly the same, which is good! Army of Two is just too much fun in co-op. :D

All I know is that they baked something happy with Mass Effect 2. If they keep releasing games of that quality I'll keep buying them. Also, they're significantly less evil than they were in 2005, and than Activision is now, which scores points in their favor.

Hmmm...I was unaware they also made Mass Effect 2. That was another one on my "list" well, I guess I'll see how BL is...

Over all, I can't stand EA, what ahppened to their original Idea games from the 80/s? (they should do a compile of old games likeC=64, that would be cool :D )

But eh...I'll still buy some of their games, the older style NFS games I'll pick up, I liked Hot persuit, all the PSX games, don't care for the undercover games, but if it's got cops and is fun, I'll be there.

It's really silly to boycott a entire company when they make products of so many different types and qualities. EA these days is just a publisher. They just publish games made either by companies they own (EA Sports) or they have a contract with. It's the same thing with Activision, Atari, Sega, Konami, or any other large company out there these days. Don't look at the company that PUBLISHED the game -- look at who actually MADE it, and what kind of game it is. EA like any other company has published both wonderfull and terrible games.

Do we continue to look at the developer when the publisher is the one that mandates the various internet connection requirements to play offline games if it's the unnecessary requirements added by the publisher that we're pissed about?

EA has recently gone the Ubisoft route with requiring internet connections for their single player games. It's cost them at least one PC game sale for Command & Conquer 4.

Yeah, I'd say to look at the developer. You have a right to be ticked off at the publisher if you want, but that's out of the game designers and makers hands.

Also, that 'constant internet' thing doesn't bother me any. I do plan to get C&C 4 but not until several months, when the game is cheaper and I can download it from Direct2Drive. They may not even require that 'constant internet' cause you'd be playing a downloaded copy vs a physical CD copy.

I don't know, it might just be me, but it kinda sounds back asswards to require an internet for a legit CD copy of a game, and not for a downloaded(you could just copy a CD) copy of the game :P

That does suck though, honestly, I won't buy any game taht requires an internet connection to play, just like I wont buy a game that requires downloads and/or patches to play.

Who is in charge of "quality control" meaning does the developer or the publisher give the final okay to release a game after it is finished? If it is the developer than I forgive EA, if EA gets the final say when they publish a game, and they continue to publish games they know are crap then I am still mad at them.

If you are talking about console games, the "final say" is with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. Each publisher has their own QA departments and processes before releasing a game to the console manufacturer before they do their pass.
