DaytonaUSA #1 Posted March 23, 2010 So I downloaded the huge file from PSN for Just Cause 2. I've been waiting to play this forever, I can't wait. I wait for the Square and Eidos logos to go away and am met with the title screen. Ok. Hit Start... fine. "O Select.... Start Demo, Settings, Credits". Ok... O. Nothing. X? Nope. Hits all other buttons including start and moving the joysticks... nothing. Seriously, is this a joke? You can't start the blood game? Last I checked, O means O. X means X. I've tried both and I get nothing. There's nothing wrong with my controller, every other game is fine, and exiting out of the game with the PS and O/X buttons works flawlessly. Help? moycon #2 Posted March 23, 2010 360 version works fine. I'd download it on that... oh wait, never mind.
DaytonaUSA #3 Posted March 23, 2010 Ok, I know this sounds silly, but the controls are ALL messed up. To start the game, or anything with O, I need to press X and O at the same time! Triangle is still unknown.. nothing works. X by itself doesn't work. Triggers are normal. What kind of lazy manager would send out a broken demo!? +HammR25 #4 Posted March 23, 2010 I just downloaded it and everything works fine.
Video #5 Posted March 23, 2010 You probably got a stray 0...or 1...I mean O or X when downloading the game, thus, broken demo. I'd say try downloading it again, but be sure to delete the old game first (if the connection sees the game, it'll probably just tell you it downloaded it, even though ti didn't)

The only thing I can think of is that I have a Japanese system, so some games have the graphics on screen switched to the O and not X as that's usually my "accept" button (like FF7). This never breaks a game though, just changes the controls and the symbols to tell me what button to press. I can't imagine this is the issue, but it's the only thing I can think of. nonner242 #8 Posted March 24, 2010 I love my 360 for anything online. Including Downloads.. Sorry to hear your issues, not the first I heard of. I debating on a PS3 recently and keep getting pushed away.
DaytonaUSA #9 Posted March 24, 2010 I love my 360 for anything online. Including Downloads.. Sorry to hear your issues, not the first I heard of. I debating on a PS3 recently and keep getting pushed away. not to be an ass, but how is this psn's fault. Obviously the developer doesn't know what it's doing. Apparently while every other dev makes it so it's games are compatible with foreign systems, these idiots messed it up. On top of that I've recieved no email from them. PSN used to have slow download times, which I don't have anymore. The only "issue" I have is that once it's downloaded you have to install it, but most games don't take too long. For a free service it's very comparible to live. Now if these guys could just email me back....God I hate Square sometimes..
nonner242 #10 Posted March 24, 2010 Your not a ass. Ive seen how PSN downloads & installs. And its like dial up compaired to the 360... Im not a fan of their free net services. Not bad, but after having the speed of MS setup it hard to like. I dont mind paing the $4.90 a month to have a nice network & speed.
+HammR25 #11 Posted March 24, 2010 This particular problem has nothing to do with PSN. It has to do with someone importing a console and a developer not even thinking about what would happen if someone imported a console and then downloaded a demo. Seems strange to me that it would work differently on a console from a different region. I can see how a developer would miss that since it would happen to a miniscule part of the population. I'd be even more surprised if they fixed it.

I got a message from Square on my phone, and I'll call them back tomorrow. They seemed interested in helping, so we'll see how it goes. And yea, I agree.. it's not PSN. Honestly, there's ways to get your download speeds up and running like your 360. PSN is actually very enjoyable. Most idiots aren't paired with a mic, which is refreshing haha. Let's see what Square does for me tomorrow when I call them back. This just doesn't make sense. I've never had a game that didn't work properly...even games only released in the states. DaytonaUSA #15 Posted March 25, 2010 Honestly, there's ways to get your download speeds up and running like your 360. Honestly, Can you come to my house and fix mine also? I'll welcome you with open arms. Best description by someone else.. enjoy! "Slow downloads from PSN are a popular topic these days. My service is through Comcast, I think 12 Mbps as my desktop computer can pull about 1.4 MBps. The PS3, with default connection settings (no proxy) only manages *maybe* 100 KBps when downloading from the store. Not acceptable. Wired or wireless made no difference. I hav NAT2 status and uPnP turned on and confirmed working on my Linksys WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware. Running speed tests through the PS3 browser was just as slow. Then I decided to setup a local proxy (Privoxy) on my desktop and run the PS3 through that. Speeds went to around 5Mbps! I figure Comcast is throttling (to death) PS3 traffic. Can someone else that has super slow speeds (<1 Mbps) on Comcast try this? The only disadvantage is if the computer is shutoff then the PS3 losses its connection. Edit: this seems to help some people, but not all. The more detailed instructions below are copied here: Assuming the computer is running Windows and your PS3 is on the same local area network as the computer: 1. Find your computer's IP address in the Control Panel -> Network Connections. This is probably something like 192.168.1.100. If it does not start with 192.168 then you might have a public IP and this won't work (at least not easily). 2. Download Privoxy from their website: http://www.privoxy.org/ 3. Run the Privoxy installer. When it is done the Privoxy window should appear. 4. Go to the Options menu and select 'Edit Main Configuration' 5. Find the line that says "listen-address 127.0.0.1:8118". Should be about halfway through the file. 6. Replace 127.0.0.1 with the computer's IP address (should start with 192.168). The :8118 part should stay. 7. Save and close the configuration. 8. If you have a firewall on your computer you need to allow access to Privoxy on port 8118. 9. On the PS3 open the network configuration settings. When it asks if you want to use a proxy say yes and enter your computer's IP address and port 8118. 10. Make sure the conenction test works and we're done! See if your speeds are faster and let us know the results. It should work on wireless too, although if your PC is also on wireless it might create too much wireless traffic to see any improvement. In that situation the data would be sent 3 times over wireless: 1) From the Internet/router to the proxy/PC, 2) from the proxy to the router, and 3) from the router to the PS3. moycon #16 Posted March 25, 2010 Unfortunately I'm not on Comcast and my PC is attached to the same router as my PS3 (and 360 and Wii) One would have to wonder why ISPs are ganging up and throttling traffic destined to PS3s. I'm confused how they would do this anyways, is it via the PS3s MAC address, the only thing I can think of that might single out a PS3 on your network, and that's why you need to use the PC as a proxy server, to fool the ISPs into thinking your just an average PC browsing the Sony network? Comcast is cable modems, and I've heard if local areas get too many users speeds go down. Perhaps it was causing issues in certain neighborhoods and they did throttle back per some bandwidth stipulation. Luckily I don't use cable modem. I was going to try this anyways to say I did it. but... I think I'll do what the author did and do some speed tests from the PS3 browser first. If they're decent I'm not going to bother.
