rhindlethereddragon #1 Posted March 24, 2010 OK, let's say you're a Sega Genesis collector, and you've gone as far as you can with US game collecting. The obvious progression of this would, of course, be to start collecting Mega Drive games that were never released in the US. Mega-Drive games won't fit in the US Sega Genesis, BUT you can play them in a US machine just fine by using the Game Genie unit as a "pass thru". I'll get the list started by stating that "HEAVY UNIT" is a near perfect translation of the awesome Arcade game. Heavy Unit was released for the Mega-Drive, but - very sadly - was never released on the Genesis. I suggest all shooter fans track this down. Please post your "MUST HAVE" Mega Drive imports, along with the genre (shooter, platform, etc) and a short description of how the game is played. Thanks! johnny_boy #5 Posted March 24, 2010 (edited) Bare Knuckle 3 - Beat 'em Up For the untampered SoR 3. Rainbow Island - Arcade Action Great arcade conversion. Battle Mania 2 - Shooter, Side Scrolling We usually feel more attachment to our hero when it assumes a human shape and identity, compared to other ship-only titles like Gradius. Plus, it's just an all-around fun and engaging shooter. Others commonly mentioned imports: Twinkle Tale, Alien Soldier, Panorama Cotton, Yuu Yuu Hakusho - Sunset Fighters (Treasure Fighter, similar to Bleach DS), Wonderboy 6, King Colossus (action RPG popularised by M.I.J.E.T.'s english ROM patch), New Zealand Story (Kiwi Kraze on NES), Super Fantasy Zone (Jap + Eu.) BrianC #6 Posted March 25, 2010 (edited) OK, let's say you're a Sega Genesis collector, and you've gone as far as you can with US game collecting. Mega-Drive games won't fit in the US Sega Genesis, BUT you can play them in a US machine just fine by using the Game Genie unit as a "pass thru". Game Genie isn't absolutely required, though. The sides of the cart slot can be widened so JP games can fit. I heard Game Genie may not save with games that have a save battery. It's also worth mentioning the name for the Genesis is also Mega Drive in EU and EU MD games have the same shape as US games. EU games are a bit trickier to import since some are optimized for PAL and others won't play in NTSC mode, but some like Super Fantasy Zone run the same speed as the JP version (at least telling from emulations like Gens or Kega Fusion). I only have a couple MD imports, but I found Daisenpuu/Twin Hawk to be a good one. It's worth mentioning that with certain Game Genie codes, a JP MD, or the region switch to JP on a modded Genesis, alternate versions of some games can be played. Some like Truxton/Tatsujin or Fire Shark/Same! Same! Same! are harder in JP mode. I heard good things about "Wonder Boy 6", but that's not the actual title of the game. The name of the game is Monster World IV. This may sound like a nitpick, but Wonder Boy 6 won't come up in a search. Reaperman #7 Posted March 25, 2010 (edited) Micro Machines Turbo Tournament '96 was Euro MD only. It's basically a remixed micro machines 2 but with a track editor. it was also a j-cart so it had two more controller ports on the cart. runs fine on US machines and it's an inexpensive import. Wntermute #9 Posted March 25, 2010 I used to have a Genesis with a language switch and widened cartridge port. There was even a local game rental shop that stocked some import games. Also, there are quite a few games that had differences when played in JP mode (different title screens, Miles/Kilometers Per Hour on driving games, etc.) That's why I mentioned Devil Crash MD, that was one of my favorites and the watered down domestic release looked silly by comparison.
