3 milhões de cartuchos Atari numa caverna

3 milhões de cartuchos para os vários modelos de Atari estiveram guardados numa caverna. Agora só resta um milhão...

No início da década de 90, a Atari encontrava-se à beira do fim. Assim sendo, decidiu vender todo o espólio de jogos que tinham em armazém. É aqui que entra a O'Shea, Limited, empresa do Missouri que adquire produtos de empresas na falência. Tipo abutres... mas sem asas... e com pernas... e por aí adiante...

Bom, passando à frente, os senhores da O'Shea deram por si na posse de três milhões de cartuchos para o Atari 2600 e Atari 7800. Novinhos em folha. Por abrir. Mint condition. E todos eles foram parar ao mais improvável dos armazéns: uma vastíssima mina abandonada de calcário, situada a 45 metros abaixo do solo.

15 anos depois, dos três milhões resta um. E as vendas têm vindo a aumentar nos últimos meses, especialmente após ter sido anunciado que Leonardo Di Caprio fará de Nolan Bushnell em “Atari”, filme sobre o criador da mítica empresa. Um sucesso portanto.

De acordo com Bill Houlehan, presidente da O'Shea, os jogos que mais saída têm tido são os seguintes: Pole Position, Mrs. Pac-Man e Dig Dug, seguidos de perto por Battlezone. Galaxian e Hat Trick.

Já agora, cada jogo custa 5 dólares, mais custos de envio. Baratinho.

O quê já aderiste à nova geração

Eu estou em pulgas para voltar ao GTA IV e ao novo episódio lançado hoje. Nunca me apeguei ao SF... sou mais um tipo do Virtua Fighter e dos combat games é o único que ainda vou jogando.

Rob, o meu portátil corre o Burnout Paradise em 800x600 com tudo no minimo. A partir daqui, o céu é o limite. E po rc+eu quero dizer HAWX, claro, seguido de SFIV.

Quanto a consolas, a Wii é a verdadeira "nova geração". As restantes são apenas o mesmo de sempre com graficos HD (não me batam, isto é subjectivo, há quem considere gráficos, mas eu considero jogabilidade e a forma como se interage com o videojogo como verdadeira evolução). No caso do SF4, o mesmo de sempre não é nada mau, note-se.

Olha, nem mais, deixa cá ir testar o carro novo que apanhei ontem no "Paradise City" antes de ir almoçar...

PS: mais vale tarde do que nunca, aproveita e agarra-te a este, Rob.

Nah, aposto que o Shiryu está à espera é da versão PC. O mesmo acontece com o H.A.W.X. não é?

Off topic: hoje fiquei em 2º lugar no torneio de PES na Roadshow Imagine Cup em Aveiro. E só não ganhei porque aumentaram a lista de inscrições pois estava sempre a chegar pessoal e tive de jogar contra o campeão da 2ª lista. Fica para a próxima..

Com que então o Flower vale mesmo a pena para quem gosta de relaxar os olhinhos

É isso mesmo. Espero um dia comprar o DMC4 e o Lost Planet, assim como Dead Rising 2. tendo em conta que o meu portatil tem já um ano e é um verdadeiro "faz tudo", diria que foi um bom investimento, sendo que na altura tinha começado a trabalhar e estava maluquinho por comprar uma 360 para jogar Ace Combat 6.... mas comprei antes este bixo. Mais uma decisão acertada da minha parte, digo eu, que nunca pensei que ele fosse capaz de correr jogos destes em tão boas condições, nem pouco mais ou menos o comprei a pensar quem um dia iria servir para jogar nada acima de emuladores (cof cof eu não disse isto).

3 million Atari cartridges in a cave

3 million cartridges for the various Atari models were stored in a cave. Now there is only one million ...

In the early 90's, Atari was on the edge of the end. It was therefore decided to sell the entire collection of games that were in storage. This is where the O'Shea, Limited, a company in Missouri who buys products from companies in bankruptcy. Type vultures ... but without wings ... and legs ... and so on ...

Well, going forward, the lords of O'Shea found themselves in possession of three million cartridges for the Atari 2600 and Atari 7800. Brand new. Unopened. Mint condition. And they all were up in the most unlikely of warehouses: an enormous amount of abandoned limestone mine situated 45 meters below ground.

15 years later, the three million left one. And sales have been increasing in recent months, especially after it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio will make Nolan Bushnell in "Atari," a film about the creator of the legendary company. A success then.

According to Bill Houlehan, president of O'Shea, the games that have had more output are: Pole Position, Mrs. Pac-Man and Dig Dug, followed closely by Battlezone. Galaxian and Hat Trick.

By the way, each game costs $ 5, plus shipping costs. Baratinho.

I'm can not wait to go back to GTA IV and the new episode released today. I have never clung to SF ... I'm more a kind of Virtua Fighter and combat games is the only one that I will play.

Rob, my laptop runs the Burnout Paradise at 800x600 with everything on minimum. From here, the sky is the limit. And he rc + HAWX I mean, of course, followed by SFIV.

On consoles, the Wii is the true "new generation". The rest are just the same as before with HD graphics (do not hit me, this is subjective, some see graphics, but I think gameplay and how it interacts with the video game as a true evolution). In the case of SF4, business as usual is not bad, it is noted.

Look, no more, lets go here to test the new car that picked up yesterday at the Paradise City before going to lunch ...

Nah, I bet that Shiryu is waiting for is the PC version. The same happens with the H.A.W.X. not?

Off topic: Today I was in 2nd place in the tournament in PES Roadshow Imagine Cup in India. And not only won because they have increased the list of entries because there was always personal and had to play against the winner of the 2nd list. Next time ..

That's right. I hope one day to buy DMC4 and Lost Planet, and Dead Rising 2. given that my laptop is one year and is a true "do everything" I would say that was a good investment, and the time had begun work and was nutty to buy a 360 to play Ace Combat 6 ... . but before I bought this bixo. Another wise decision on my part, I say, I never thought that he was able to run these games in such good condition, no more or less bought it wondering who would one day be used to play anything above emulators (cof cof I did not say this).
