Well, Gee, I could start my own "Atari Hardware project" like that too! My idea is to buy up some old PC 1.44meg floppies with a brief manual On how to plug the cable in 180 degrees in the opposite direction and change the jumper to the zero position. :D

Just kidding...that's cool. ;) (I know that my way would only allow 720k formats :( )

Well I hope that your message wasn't ment to discourage my efforts by saying along the lines that anyone could do such a simple thing.

Nope. Strictly a joke. No belittling intended or making light of your efforts "seriously." Some here can do a mod like this on their own, but a kit is VERY convenient, even to us who could manage such an upgrade. I'll buy one from you assuming a reasonable price. I do hope you'll have a "kit" without the drive, as I have drives already.

I will sell any part of the upgrade seperate. Some people may just want the PCB so I will sell just that. Though I would rather just sell the compleate kit since it will be tested upon despatch. It would probably save a lot of problems should anyone have problems for whatever reason. Hopefully some people will buy some so I can gain a little extra cash to invest in more projects!

I'm interseted in getting some sort of 1.44 floppy on my ST so I can get some easy to find disks for it.

Just don't have the cash. I noticed that the price for your converter with floppy dirve works out to about $80 US

$80 sounds an AWEFUL lot for such a simple mod.

the drive by itself I can buy for around $10 (probs about $15-$17) new! I don't believe the electronics to make the mod actually cost that much, from what I recall of the article in an ST mag it's only a new crystal and some simple logic? (been a LONG time since I read that.. must dig out that mag and see :) )

I dont know what conversion to $ would be though you might want to try and get the floppy drive yourself. I plan to make a page on how to mod the drive for use with my kits. Since I am in the U.K. Postage of the drive could be a good killer so anyone outside the UK might be best to find the drive themselves. The drives arn't really that heavy though the postage would be a few $ for sure. I have a few sources for drives in the U.S. I will try and track down someone to supply them with the mod already done.

postage shouldn't be too much. I have shipped a HDD to holland and that only cost me £4, £8 with insurance. I'd guess you could do postage for around £5-£9 (probs about $8-$16)

just guessing at the prices (and the conversion)

I probably would get the drive locally. I saw in a faq somewhere recently on how to mod the PC floppy for an ST, but I forget where I saw that...

I just want to use my ST again. I also need a new mouse, but don't have extra $$$ right now.

I agree that they may seem a lot though half is on parts and half is on time to contruct them , which is why I made it possible for people to but which parts they want. Parts here are very expensive and in qty of less than 100 they are a lot also. I could probably shave $15 off the full kit maybe a bit more if I had a large amount of orders. Then I would buy some parts from Canada since they are half the cost. Though doing this for a few boards is not worth it. You can source the parts yourself and build the kit yourself and it will save you a lot.

I hope to get some basic construction steps online soon aswell so people can see whats involved. I have fitting instructions already online if anyone wants to take a look at whats involved.
