What was the Worlds Largest collection of Video Games ? I mean back in the heyday of video games Early to Mid 80's

The Largest Arcade in the world or maybe there is a classic collection out there now which is even larger Anyone know ?

Imagine if every arcade game ever made was in one arcade (Bootlegs included) How cool would that be you would prob need

an Aircraft Hanger and a week to play them all.

Funspot claims to be the largest classic arcade in the world today.

Todd Tuckey of TNT Amusements claims to have the largest collection of arcade cabaret cabinets in the world.

According to this article http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/02/02/ST2008020201061.html it is said that Peter Hirschberg has one of the largest private collections in the country but I thought reading elsewhere that his was the largest collection in the country.

Neat I was just wondering would it be possible to organize an annual meet where everyone sets up there Arcade games for a couple of days in a hired out venue and people to trvel to play the games charge them in to help cover the costs. We could get some serious collection on display then with word of mouth it could get bigger and bigger.Have competitions for best turned out Cabinets etc.Maybe in the summertime under Marquee Tents with live entertainment music etc A classic arcade game festival Is that a crazy idea ?

It's a crazy idea but the best ideas usually stem from outrageous thought...

There would be no incentive for a collector to do this. If you're in the arcade business, it's a different story...but let's just take it from the collector's perspective for this argument...

I'll give you an example of what I am going through with my Pole Position restoration...

For $50, I bought a dead Pole Position cabinet that had mice nests in the marquee area and in the metal housing for the PCB. I gutted the cabinet, cleaned it, Kilz'd it, painted it, installed a new control panel overlay, sanded rust off of it, polished it, new marquee light, new T-molding and just last night dropped the marquee glass onto the garage floor. You probably heard that F-bomb from my garage last night around 8:15 EDT.

Now, I need a replacement marquee glass along with the shifter bezel that I can't seem to find anywhere.

When this cabinet is complete there will be a satisfaction derived from taking a rodent shit house and restoring it so that my kids can have a big smile on their face while playing it just like I did in 1982.

What's in it for me to load this up in my van for a three hour one way trip only to have some ID10T total my van and everything in it en route to this extravaganza? Or, when I make it to the show in one piece, that some dude respects the amount of work put into restoring these games by not spilling his Red Bull all over the control panel or resting his cigarette on the monitor glass?

The best scenario is a private party organized amongst friends or some kind of club like they have out in CA.

If you're in the business there's incentive as most arcades are also showrooms nowadays. Now, you can reach a bigger audience and put a price tag on the marquee in hopes of not having to bring the cabinet back home in favor of some greenbacks in your wallet. Maybe on that three hour drive back home you see an arcade cabinet somewhere sitting out on the curb destined for the landfill...

Yeah I guess your right I didn't think it through. If you where to attempt to do it in the United States it would prob have to be on a regional basis say four times a year in/near by different cities rotating, even then with the Geography of the United States that would still mean three hour drive by motorway for a lot of owners which as you say could be hazardous for precious games. As for the Cigarettes Soft drinks, you could just ban people from

doing those activites in the games marquee areas. You could charge people in to the festival and charge people to play the games any profits go back to the owners to cover their transport costs.Your probably right there would be too many probems in terms of logistics security etc.I would just love to see a record set for the worlds largest collection of classic games and love to be there to see it.
