DaytonaUSA #1 Posted April 9, 2010 With the release of Sega Classic Racing come upon us soon, I was wondering who wanted to see this on consoles? I know I'm probably one of the few lone nuts out there who not only still love this game, but consider it to be the best arcade game ever made, but that doesn't mean that there aren't others out there interested. What's not to love? It's the same game I've fallen in love with, including the cruddy graphics and perfect controls, just in a higher resolution. I've never been a huge fan of the Dreamcast version as some of that magic left the game.. it just wasn't the same. The Saturn version was close, but unfortunately as we all know, the framrate went from 60fps in the arcade to 20fps on the Saturn and PC. The only negative I see here is the simple fact that the music lyrics on almost all the songs had to be taken out and traded in for instrumentals since they don't own the Nascar license anymore, and EA is a bunch of douches . That and the obvious... it's arcade only for now. I can't imagine how Sega thinks they're going to make any money on this title if they don't eventually port it over to consoles as arcades are all but gone, even in Japan they're not very popular any longer. Do you think it will ever happen? Just the thought of 16 player Daytona USA online in HD makes me giddy.
Atariboy #2 Posted April 9, 2010 They don't need a NASCAR license, they're just cutting corners because they don't want to pay to license it from Daytona International Speedway or the track's parent company, the International Speed Corporation. I'd like it, but only if it has full wheel support.
shadow460 #3 Posted April 10, 2010 I think a PSN version that could be downloaded to a PSP would be worth a few bucks. Maybe $10 or so. IMO, what would really be great is if some of their other racing games that didn't receive a home port, like SCUD Race (Super GT over here) or their version of Episode I Racer got releases now instead of Daytona USA. I know they've got a Super GT for Dreamcast, but I've read it's quite different from the arcade version. Don't get me wrong, Daytona is a great game (it ate more than one of my paychecks in the mid '90's), but there are several other great games that either received half baked home ports or none at all (no diss to the LucasArts version of Racer, tho'!), and they've just been neglected. I'd probably be willing to part with $15 or even $20 a pop for their other racing titles in a downloadable format.
Atariboy #4 Posted April 11, 2010 I know they've got a Super GT for Dreamcast, but I've read it's quite different from the arcade version. I'm pretty sure the closest to a home port of Super GT that we ever got was the inclusion of it's tracks as bonus content on the Outrun 2 port the Xbox recieved. Super GT was rumored for the Dreamcast but never saw the light of day.

You know what arcade game I've always wanted on consoles? Sega's Star Wars Arcade.. you know the 3D 1st person shooter/vehicle arcade game? I love that thing... Quite honestly with you, if I was running Sega, all that stuff would be on consoles. People buy without thought of cost when it comes to nostalgia. The kids who played that stuff have grown up and have the expensive consoles now. Why not cash in with the dozens upon dozens of great arcade games out there? It's not like they'd be robbing the arcade versions of customers.. as they're all but dead now.

Bilnick #7 Posted April 16, 2010 Arcade only? Blah. I enjoyed the Dreamcast version of Daytona. Online was fun when all racers agreed to pick similar cars. Not having the original music is a bonus in my book, it was bad in the 90s, and I am sure it hasn't aged well. I am not a big fan of music in racing games anyway. If the game is done right, the sounds of the cars interacting and the engine sounds are what I prefer. I would like an updated HD version of the classic game though. Update the tracks from the first two games with modern graphics and release it on a disc with XboxLive support. 10-20 people racing online at once would be great. chrisbid #8 Posted April 21, 2010 how is rolling start licensed? sure the daytona theme song cant be used, but the rest of the music should be left intact and i want a 40 person online daytona race

otaku #10 Posted April 30, 2010 I'll take a copy either downloadable or full retail as long as it is affordably priced and of good quality
