init12 #2 Posted April 10, 2010 Is the 32x compatible with the CDX? The CDX works but I cant get any of my 32x's to work with it. They've always worked fine together for me. Never even tried my 32X on anything other than my beloved CDX
edweird13 #3 Posted April 10, 2010 The cart slot is touchy I cant get any EA games to work. Is there any easy way to clean it? Also the 32x is wobbly when it is in the slot.
kool kitty89 #4 Posted April 10, 2010 It's best to Squeeze games into place in the 32x rather than pushing in: minimizing stress on the unit. (pop the game in and grip the edges of the 32x while using your thumbs to push the cart in) Otherwise I think some have used polymer foam or cardboard to help secure it better. As for EA games, I'm not sure... But cleaning can be done to the slots by using a cleaning cart or thin cloth stretched over a credit card (usually done damp with rubbing alcohol then dry until no dirt shows). Clean the edge connector contacts on the 32x too: just like carts, swab and alcohol.

You mean EA games on the CDX? I have the same problem. Never did find a solution. But i did have a long discussion here about it. They made me think it was just my console. http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135188
Austin #6 Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) Some EA games are finicky (or will just simply not work) with the 32x attached. This is the experience I have in the past, anyway. Also, some EA games will not work on anything other than a Model 1 Genesis. Make sure the games you are trying do not fall into that later category. Video #7 Posted April 11, 2010 The CDX was never intended to have the 32X (nor was the 32X intended to hook to the CDX) That's why it says it's not compatible in the papers. Though the "incompatibility" is due to them not wanting to plunk down for shielding to get the FCC to clear it than anything. It'll never fit quit right, though I'm sure you could get a spacer just like the Genesis has to help the wobble.

You know what's funny... i just bought a boxed 32X yesterday. and it came with two sets of instructions... one saying the 32x will not work with the cdx. And a 2nd set of instructions showing how the 32x hooks up with the cdx with optional spacer... me thinks sega really screwed this one up... i'm guessing it only works with certain models of the cdx. I'll scan and post both if enough people are interested... -rick

Not only a model 1, but specifically early model 1s from ~1991 or prior, revisions VA0-VA5 without the TMSS lockout mechanism. (which is responsible for the "produced or licensed by Sega LTD" screen) There's only 1 or 2 EA titles like that, one being Populous iirc. Note that the VA6 revision includes models with or without the EXT port on the back and with/without the High Definition Graphics logo, so you can find machines which look identical to earlier models externally other than the FCC code. (TMSS models have a shorter code, don't remember off hand though)
edweird13 #10 Posted April 14, 2010 Got a couple more questions. I thought I read somewhere that you cant finish Shining Force CD without the save cart. Is this true? Also what are some of the good games beside the RPG's which I plan on playing. I dont think I will like the full motion video games.

There's not enough SRAM on the console to hold more than 2 saves for SFCD. You need saves from Books 1 & 2 to start Book 3. Racketboy has a good article to get you familiar with some of the best games on the system.
