Atari 1010 problem

Tapes are readily available and cheap.

It may be my area but when I need a DAT tape or mini-disc I can just walk to a nearby store and buy one. If I need an old cassette tape or DCC I need to drive to a bigger city or get one online.

Best Buy still has compact cassettes! I think maybe even K-Marts but it's been awhile since I've looked. Another advantage of cassette vs floppy (on Atari at least) is I've never fought with formatting problems on tape. Compact Cassettes are still used in several niche markets, so they will be around a little while yet. But yeah, in smaller towns it's online only. I picked up some TDK d90's at goodwill the other day - - an unopened 5pack for $0.99 -- that'll last me a few years!
