madhatter667 #1 Posted April 22, 2010 Thanks to working out a trade with a fellow forum member, I should be the owner of a Jaguar in the very near future. There are a couple games coming in the trade, such as: Doom, Iron Soldier, Tempest 2000, Blue Lightning, and I think Checkered Flag. I know that AvP should be on my wishlist. What other titles come highly recommended? Why? What titles should be avoided and why? Anything special I should do to maintain/store my Jag? Anything to avoid that could cause damage etc.? Thanks for any input!
Astropuff #2 Posted April 23, 2010 You should get Rayman AVP NBA Jam and maybe a fighting game your choice And a Pinball game (ruiner) Wolfenstein is great as well I also think trevor mcfur is good as well. Zool 2 and pitfall are also worth getting Hope this helps Buy the way I hope you enjoy your Jag.
CD-i #3 Posted April 23, 2010 You suggest Trevor McFur? That would be one of the games that I would avoid as much as possible... and which fighting game? besides Dragon all fighting games are horrible, even Ultra Vortek, which is praised by many users ^^ concerning the price tag of Telegames and Songbird games IMO these games are worth getting: Avp Rayman NBA Jam Defender 2000 Atari Karts Raiden Wolfenstein Sensible Soccer (if you like soccer ^^) Attack of the mutant penguins
+Ransom #4 Posted April 23, 2010 Here's the ones I like: Baldies Battlemorph Cybermorph Iron Soldier Tempest 2000 Theme Park Rayman Cannon Fodder
+save2600 #5 Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) My short list of must haves besides the ones you're getting: Pinball Fantasies (Ruiner is weak comparatively IMO) Cannon Fodder NBA Jam AvP Defender 2000 (2000 mode sucks IMO, but classic mode is great. Get Songbird's Protector if you can afford it) Raiden I-War Ultra Vortek Kasumi Ninja (sorry guys, but I do like that game) Zero 5 Dino Dudes ...and if you become a die-hard Jag gamer, pick yourself up a copy of Battlesphere for reasonable AND a Jag controller pad that has been converted with a rotary spinner to play Tempest 2000 proper. +save2600 #10 Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) Trevor *is* a good game. Great graphics and above average gameplay for the Jag. That being said... one of the best rollout (or otherwise) games for the system Edited April 23, 2010 by save2600
madhatter667 #11 Posted April 23, 2010 Kasumi Ninja does have a bad rep though. I haven't even played it or seen a copy in real life, and I know that! Ha ha ha! Maybe for laughs vs. on Kasumi could be cool.

Maybe for laughs vs. on Kasumi could be cool. The Jaguar in general has a "bad rep", but Kasumi is cool for what it is. Voice overs will haunt you as will the music, sounds and gameplay Kasumi Ninja is definitely worth its purchase price. No need to hesitate buying. Remember though.... whether you want to consider the programmers a mentally challenged equivalent to those that did Mortal Kombat is only for you to decide. lol Press the buttons a half-a-second in advance to when you think they ought to be pushed and you'll find the game tolerable... in a late 80's "Atari" kind of way Edited April 23, 2010 by save2600

Gunstar #14 Posted April 24, 2010 I'm not going to tell you what you should get, everyone else has, and as you can see, there is a wide variety of opinion as to what Jag games are the ones you should get. The fact is, that the vast majority of Jaguar games are very good, but many like and dislike different games for different reasons. One person will tell you Dragone is the best fighter, and the next will tell you it is the worst and Ultra Vortek is the best, and on and on. Just look at Youtube videos, and screen shots here at atari age, and make up your own mind based one what types of games you like. The games widely considered the system's "killer apps" are AvP, Tempest, Iron Soldier, etc. as others have mentioned.

What I think you should do is check out the Atari Jaguar rarity list on atariage, or game list. And you can also look at the wikipedia "list of atari jaguar games" and choose the games themselves. Wikipedia is good because it as some information on the game; here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atari_Jaguar_games And anyway, a more respectable question is what do YOU want? madhatter667 #16 Posted April 24, 2010 Neat. Asking for recommendations is really just getting pointed in the right direction. AvP is on my *must get* list. I have it for the Lynx... and AvP is what really grabbed my attention with the Jag back in the day.
NotoriousReignz #17 Posted April 29, 2010 Just picked up AvP myself, gonna look into getting Doom & Double Dragon next.
The_Laird #18 Posted April 29, 2010 Don't get Double Dragon. Not only is it one of the more expensive games on the machine but also complete crap. The only time I would get DDV is when you already have everything else.
+save2600 #19 Posted April 30, 2010 Agreed. What is up with the seemingly illegitimate popularity of this game lately? If only the Jaguar was currently viable and in production today. There used to be a sucker born every minute. Now there's 5 born every second.
NotoriousReignz #20 Posted April 30, 2010 Well from what I've heard, it's the only halfway decent fighter on the Jag...
The_Laird #21 Posted April 30, 2010 Well from what I've heard, it's the only halfway decent fighter on the Jag... Who told you that? I would give them a slap!!!! Ultra Vortek is excellent, one of the best games on the Jag. Dragon: Bruce Lee Story is also very good IMO and offers a different kind of fighter. Kasumi Ninja isn't at all bad either and even Fight For Life is better than DDV.
NotoriousReignz #22 Posted April 30, 2010 (edited) Someone posted that on these forums... obviously I'm no Jag expert, just looking to boost my library a bit right now since it's such a waste to have the system collecting dust. Starcat #23 Posted April 30, 2010 Trevor McFur is definately one of the games I would avoid. It's pretty much just a proof of concept that the Jaguar could display high color jagpeg graphics. It just has a repeating scrolling background and nothing really motivating to begin with. If this was done by a homebrew developer who just started, I would say, it's an okay try. But as a professional game, it's just awful. It doesn't have anything a good shooter should have. The games I still play most are: (not sorted) -Raiden -Super Burnout -Tempest 2000 -Worms You might also enjoy: (not sorted) -Missile Command 3D -Atari Karts -Doom / Wolfenstein 3D -Rayman -Iron Solider 1 & 2 -Theme Park -AvP -Ultra Vortek -Cybermorph In case of CD titles I recommend: -Battlemorph -Iron Solider 2 -Myst (if you like it) -Several Homebrew releases Games to avoid: (unless you want it for the joy of trash) -Trevor McFur -Kasumi Ninja -Checkered Flag -Club Drive (can be ridiculous fun in 2 player though) -Double Dragon V -Supercross 3D -Air Cars In either case, I suggest watching youtube videos before buying a game blindly.

Avoid DDV like the plague unless you are 1.) looking to collect Jag games and / or 2.) find it at a very good price (i.e. cheap as hell).
