Atari2600Lives #1 Posted April 28, 2010 I have a boxed copy of Adventure (pciture label) and I noticed my manual (white with picture label) is about to lose the first page. I went on the web and eBay and atari26600.com looking for a replacement white manual and all I found were the black ones. Is the white manual a bit more rare than the black one ? Philflound #2 Posted April 28, 2010 Probably. Though I've come across the white manuals once in awhile. Phil
Ranthulfr #3 Posted May 2, 2010 I was under the impression that the black manuals were the originals. Did Atari switch to the white manuals when they went to picture-label carts?
shadowdoggie #4 Posted May 2, 2010 I have two black manuals - Revision 1 and Revision 2, but have not yet seen the white version. Is it in color or black and white?

shadowdoggie #6 Posted May 2, 2010 That looks very familiar... I've got to have that version around here somewhere. I find it interesting that someone felt like it was a good idea to put yellow text on a white background. Just another part of the adventure I guess. user42 #7 Posted May 2, 2010 That scan really is overly brightened too, almost completely washed out....
Atari2600Lives #8 Posted May 2, 2010 (edited) That scan really is overly brightened too, almost completely washed out.... Here is another scan without the brightness. In my opinion the white manual is much nicer than the black one. I wonder if anyone can clear up which came first and if the white is indeed a bit more rare than the black (it seems so). A.J. Franzman #9 Posted May 3, 2010 The white manual is from a late re-release.

Atari2600Lives #11 Posted May 4, 2010 The white manual is from a late re-release. Do you know what year? I could swear I purchased that in 1980.
CPUWIZ #12 Posted May 4, 2010 Adventure re-release was 1987.
Atari2600Lives #13 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Adventure re-release was 1987. Then I am sure that the white manual was not on the re release. CPU WIZ can you verify that? Here is the picture of the white manual for reference with the copywright dates. I remember purchasing the Adventure game in 1980 , I have the white manual that says 1978 and the box that says 1980. I also include a black manual purchased recently that says 1980. 1978 date on white manual (box says 1980). 1980 date on black manual. CincYnoTi #14 Posted May 4, 2010 In general, but not always, for games with text & black picture carts: 1) small black manuals were first style, released with text labels 2) small white/full color manuals were second style 3) large white/full color manuals were third, "usually" with picture label carts 4) large black/white (no color, but gray shades) "re-releases" by Atari Corp, 1985-1991 Canadian & PAL releases and some of the Atari Corp re-releases had multi-language manuals. The silver boxes/cart and the red boxes/carts had other manual styles.
Atari2600Lives #15 Posted May 4, 2010 In general, but not always, for games with text & black picture carts: 1) small black manuals were first style, released with text labels 2) small white/full color manuals were second style 3) large white/full color manuals were third, "usually" with picture label carts 4) large black/white (no color, but gray shades) "re-releases" by Atari Corp, 1985-1991 Canadian & PAL releases and some of the Atari Corp re-releases had multi-language manuals. The silver boxes/cart and the red boxes/carts had other manual styles. That sounds right, I would have the third on the list. I am still curious as to why the white manual would have 1978 printed on it while the black ones have 1980. My recollection is that I purchased my cart summer of 1980 and it had the white manual I showed here.
