Saving video in AtariWinPLus 4.0 emulator

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I´ve just started to record some videos of my gameplays using the AtariWinPLus 4.0 emulator´s feature. My problem: Despite I only try to record a few minutes -say, four or five- of gameplay, when I save the videos to my PC I get a very HUGE file (more than 90 Mb in average). What would be the best configuration so I can reduce the filesize without loosing much quality?

Thanks in advance,

I tend to get best results using the Microsoft RLE codec with the quality at about 80 per cent. The resulting file is huge, but I just run it through Windows Movie Maker to create a reasonably sized WMV.

Hello flashjazzcat,

After some more tests, I think I got it: using the ffshow Video Codec (from the K-Lite codec) I managed to record one minute of video in 8 Mb, more or less. Anyaway, I´ll follow your advice so perhaps I can shrink my recordings even more.

Warm regards,

You should record with some lossless codec or just uncompressed if you have enough space on hard drive and only then use some lossy compression. Or if you have enough CPU power, you can try to encode straight to the final codec.

Hi MaPa,

My solution was to pass the recorded AVI video (with ffshow Video Codec) thru Windows Movie Maker. That way, I could reduce the file from 8 Mb to 2.4 Mb. Here is the test video:

I'm using a codec that identifies itself as DivX ;-) MPEG-4 Fast Motion and it gives very satisfactory results. Check my Encounter! video on my youtube channel or

. I'm not really sure how I got this codec, might be from any of the multiple-codec packs I installed. Not going to endorse any of those though, since they can have side effects, when other codecs are already installed. Previous video's were post-processed in Windows Movie Maker and are definately not as clear. The final noise effect in my Paperweight 3.1 video are a good example why wmv won't work just right.
