LYNXGUY #3 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) I got sound and on my old computer I was able to use a non USB joystick that worked great. I do get sound on my new computer and I can use the keyboard to play but thats no fun. Maybe Xformer 2000 isn't programmed for USB joysticks ??? LYNXGUY #4 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) below is a image capture and the joystick works as I can move the "x" all over and the #1 red fire button lights up but no games work with either the Xformer or any PC game that requires a joystick. Any ideas ??? Edited May 4, 2010 by LYNXGUY
Goochman #5 Posted May 4, 2010 Id dump Xformer - any good reason why you'd torture yourself getting it to work?

Check out the xformers web site.. http://www.emulators.com/xformer.htm Edited May 4, 2010 by rdea6
LYNXGUY #7 Posted May 5, 2010 What is Windows v.8 ??? Actually it is called Xformer 2000 For Windows v.8 v.8 is version
+orpheuswaking #8 Posted May 5, 2010 I've tried the sticks with a bunch of PC games as well as other atari emulators.... Xformer is the only one that wont work.
jaybird3rd #9 Posted May 5, 2010 Is there any particular reason you want to use XFormer 2000 instead of another emulator? XFormer is pretty old, and it just might not be programmed to read joysticks via DirectInput.
LYNXGUY #10 Posted May 5, 2010 Maybe you don't have a DirectX installed.Check out the xformers web site.. I checked out the site and which DirectX do I download ?? I got a DELL with Windows XP
jaybird3rd #11 Posted May 5, 2010 Click on the Start button, click "Run," and type "dxdiag" and click "OK". This will tell you which version of DirectX you have; for Windows XP, you should have DirectX 9. If the program doesn't run, or if you have an older version, download DirectX 9 here. LYNXGUY #12 Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Here is a pic of the USB DirectX info Is there any particular reason you want to use XFormer 2000 instead of another emulator? It is super easy to use and it uses .atr files which are awesome, any other 8bit Emulators that use .atr files ?? Edited May 5, 2010 by LYNXGUY
jaybird3rd #13 Posted May 5, 2010 That looks like DirectX 9. Unless the "dxdiag" program shows that you have an older version (see the "System" tab), then I'm not sure what else you can do. If XFormer 2000 isn't programmed to read joysticks via DirectInput, then it just can't do it, and you probably won't be able to get it to work with any USB joystick; it isn't an issue specific to the Legacy joysticks. As I said, XFormer is a pretty old emulator, and you should probably look into a newer one (like Atari800Win or Altirra) instead.
LYNXGUY #14 Posted May 5, 2010 My DELL doesn't have a joystick input so I have no choice but to use a USB joystick
jaybird3rd #15 Posted May 5, 2010 It is super easy to use and it uses .atr files which are awesome, any other 8bit Emulators that use .atr files ?? They all do ... Atari800Win PLus Altirra
Rybags #16 Posted May 5, 2010 It's a crap emulator anyway, NFI why anyone would still bother to use it. I've found that sometimes it can help with apps that have trouble with joysticks to ensure that the one you want to use is listed first in the control panel - you can change the order of controllers installed via it. jaybird3rd #17 Posted May 5, 2010 In my experience, the one thing that XFormer has going for it is its ability to mount a file in the PC filesystem directly as a "virtual" disk image. That makes it easy to read an XEX or a data file without having to move it into an ATR first. But then again, there aren't many situations when you'd actually need to do that. LYNXGUY #18 Posted May 5, 2010 I downloaded Altirra 0.9.0.0 It looks great but. . . . . . . How do I load .ATR files and what are the keyboard commands ?? Not all games start with pushing the fire button
jaybird3rd #19 Posted May 5, 2010 Loading ATR files: "File" Menu -> "Boot image..." Keyboard commands: README.TXT (under "Keyboard Mappings") Where did you get version 0.9.0.0? The most current version is 1.6, at the site I linked to earlier.
+Roydea6 #20 Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Direct from emulator.com: [/Quote] "Using the optional Xformer Cable with Xformer Classic (on MS-DOS only) you can directly connect Atari 810, Atari 1050, XF551, Indus GT, and Rana disk drives to your PC to transfer Atari 8-bit files and disks to your PC. Xformer Classic and Xformer Cable are no longer supported. The DOS software and instructions for building the cable are provided as-is." This is the only reason that I ever used this emulator in the past.. I had my rana drive and printer connected to my PC, and was able to read disks and print listings. Later I found out about APE, SIO2PC, and never looked back. Edited May 5, 2010 by rdea6

+remowilliams #22 Posted May 6, 2010 Xformer is a horrendous piece of crap. Do yourself a favor and grab one of the other emulators mentioned. Altirra is an awesome choice in particular.

+wood_jl #25 Posted May 6, 2010 I downloaded the latest version of Altirra and OMFG it is AWESOME :o It sure is! And it's written by a friendly and extremely talented guy rather than a giant asshole like Xformer. What's the story with Xformer, and the guy who wrote it? Looks like he did/said something bad? What happened? Is he still in business? When I "dropped off the scene" it was ST Xformer, trying to emulate the A8 on the ST and it just didn't work. I know there's been "Gemulator" and "Xformer 98" and stuff like that and I don't know one from the other - which systems, etc. The only one I've ever put any time in with is A800win. I do think I downloaded one of those Xformer packages a long time ago, just to get the OS and BASIC ROMS, which I used in A800win; I don't recall that I even tried the one with it. Sounds like I didn't miss out on anything, eh?
