Got a buttload of Vic-20 stuff, anything rare here? Need some help.

Recommended Posts

Hello

My boss has a ton of Vic 20 stuff, He asked for some help selling it so I asked him if he could make a list so I could ask you guys if he has anything rare or valuable that computer collectors would be interested in. I am not trying to get rich off junk or anything, I just have no idea what Vic 20 stuff goes for and he asked me to help him out (and he is my boss afterall) Let me know if anything here sounds interesting, just have to make sure he's not sitting on a R10 or anything ;) Thanks guys!

Any help you guys can give me would be great, as mentioned, I really do not know much about vintage computing and would love to help my boss out with a value of his vintage collection. If any games stand out as harder to find, or you can asses a total value of all of it, please let me know, Thanks a ton guys! :) :) :)

The digital press rarity guide lists vic-20 carts. The pricing they give is probably wildly inaccurate, but it should at least give you an idea of which (if any) are the rare ones.

Nothing really valuable there to be honest, but PM sent, got a couple of things to note...

"Radar Ratrace" was one of the VIC original launch titles which was internally developed at Commodore. I guess that might be a relatively rare/interesting item for a collector, assuming it is of course boxed and in good condition.

Gonna have to agree with most of the guys on this one. Your collection includes a lot of common first-party releases, along with the occasional Sega and Parker Bros. title. I'd say Congo Bongo and Deadly Duck are the most valuable of the lot. The big money's on Jelly Monsters (which was briefly available, then recalled due to copyright issues) and some of the quirky, off-the-beaten-path third party games. The only problem is that since the VIC-20 itself isn't highly sought after by collectors, even the rarities aren't going to fetch a lot of coin. There's not much supply, but not much demand either.

My suggestions are to go to the Denial web site (www.sleepingelephant.com/denial, if memory serves) and, if you can find it, Ward Shrake's Cartzilla cartridge list for more information. Godzilla was written over ten years ago but it's still quite a handy resource for the VIC-20 fan.

No, Radar Ratrace is actually quite common.

Me too. It's one of my favorite Vic games, maybe my #1 fave. I just turned the volume way down (sick of hearing that sour last note in the tune) and played it for hours when I was 10!

Also note:

The tape version of Cyclons (Rabbit Software) should not be confused with the cartridge version of Cyclon (Boone). The latter is unbelievably rare.

Not really... it's quite common, especially in the UK. It's more a rarity 4 or 5 game today, and shouldn't go for more than $8-10 loose. As for checking cart rarities, look at the online guide @ Digital Press; since Ward retired I've been keeping shop on it and maintaining the faith in the first breadbin...

Thanks! The online rarity guide is quite useful (still, i couldn't find the C64 titles I was looking for anywhere... I guess they must be pretty rare then! :P )

The guide is only for cartridges, and for the most part, just game cartridges. If the C64 games you refer to are on disk, then that's why they won't be listed...
