Gunstar #1 Posted November 14, 2002 While looking over EXXOS' site with the 1.44 meg drive upgrade I noticed that he currently has a new memory upgrade project in the works using the newer 72pin simms instead of the older 30(?)pin ones, this looks very interesting and I think, when and if this project is finished, I'm going to buy this kit. But there are a couple of things I am wondering about; 1) are there any memory upgrades already available that use the newer simms? Also, I happen to have about a dozen 4meg simm boards just laying around...I plan on keeping one or two for my future upgrade (one as backup), but I'm wondering how much these are worth? I'd like to sell off the rest or trade to people who may be wanting to upgrade their ST's to 4megs in the future, possibly with Exxos' upcoming mod or another if one extists. I would sell them for a lot cheaper than they cost normally, but I've no idea what they cost as I was given these to upgrade my PC's memory about a year ago, only to find out that my old Gateway uses the older 30pin simms... exxos #2 Posted November 17, 2002 Hello, AFAIK There isn't any kits which use a single 72pin simm or 4 30pin simms. The only kit I know of is the Marpet kit which used a whole bunch of RAM IC's. The cost of this kit was HUGE though it did offer a plugin option. IMO from what I have read in the past people have had nothing but problems with the plugin one. The solder-in kit by them should work fine though. I'm working on the 72pin board as you know at the moment. I keep changing the PCB design trying to find the best place to fit it all. Due to the stupid amount of PCB revisions and other things I won't be producing a plugin board, at least I doubt it anyway. The new design is only half built so far. If there is a lot of interest then I will try to finish the design quicker.
atarian1 #3 Posted November 18, 2002 Actually, the Marpet kits originally came with RAM ICs, but later replaced with SIMMs. The Marpet kits sold today by Atari dealers are the 4 30-pin SIMM solder-in version which have been very reliable. I would still be interested to see your 1 4MB 72-pin upgrade board come to life too.
LinkoVitch #4 Posted November 18, 2002 I don't think the 30 pin simms hold much value I bought 12 1Meg sticks a few years back for about £10. I then sold 4 for £10 I still have the rest.. If anyone wants to find some I recommend going to small computer clearence shops and asking what they have, they will probably be glad to offload them

If anyone wants to find some I recommend going to small computer clearence shops and asking what they have, they will probably be glad to offload them I have about a dozen 72-pin 4meg simm cards. I wanted to know what they go for...I may be interested in trading you for some 30 pin simms...if your interested in any 72-pin ones. I need 30 pin ones right now instead of 72-pin simms. My Pentium1 PC seems to take the 30 pin simms, and it looks as though all available ST upgrades require 30 pin simms...so unless I find an ST upgrade kit that uses 72-pin simms, I'm out of luck. Any one need 72 pin ones?
