Mord #1 Posted May 15, 2010 I've been thinking about getting rid of my Sega Master System since I tend to just use the power base converter on my genesis these days. Before I do tho, does anyone know of any games that don't work with it?
ApolloBoy #2 Posted May 15, 2010 The only one I know of that doesn't work is F-16 Fighting Falcon, because that uses a video mode that the Genesis doesn't support.

I have that game, but can't say I'm a fan of it. So I guess if I get rid of the SMS, that game will go with it.
wavelflack #4 Posted May 16, 2010 What are the details of the video mode?
gdement #5 Posted May 16, 2010 What are the details of the video mode? It's an old mode from the SG-1000. Wikipedia says the SG-1000 uses 256x192 16 colors, 32 sprites (per screen I assume, size not given). Apparently F-16 is the only SMS game that used this mode. I wonder if there was any advantage that could explain it, or maybe it was just a quick port from the older system.
gdement #6 Posted May 16, 2010 I think I've heard of some games not working with the Genesis controllers, so you might need to keep your SMS pads. Somebody else can probably give a list, or say if I'm wrong.

Wonder boy in Monsterland is another. That's fine tho. I have 4 controllers so if I get rid of the SMS I'll only be getting rid of two of the controllers. It's possible to mod a Genesis controller to work with those games. You need to cut the wire coming from pin 7. An easy way to do this without damaging a controller, simply buy a 9-pin M/F adapter and pull out pin 7. Connect the adapter between the Genesis and the controller. This is the method I use, as I really dislike the SMS controllers.
davepesc #10 Posted May 16, 2010 Add Bomber Raid and Alien Syndrome to the list that need an SMS pad.
