Aglae #1 Posted May 17, 2010 Howdy Atarians, I got a Ultrasatan device and could find any SD card smaller than 4 GB. Now, what should I do to get it working on my 1040 STf computer ? Is there a tutorial (for old farts like me that have not been using an Atari ST for ages) on how to format the darn thing on a PC and what software should I put onto that ? The software needed on the PC... I was hoping I could transfer demos, games, apps, ... in image format or if they need to be converted then so be it but still need to understand how. Sorry if this has been talked about before but I tried looking the web and not really found clear indications. I followed one procedure and got my SD card formatted somehow but now it is unreadable both on PC and not working on ST either. Formatted the SD in the camera seems to work as I can take pictures but still unable to see the content on PC. So I believe something went wrong. Thanks for your help,

Thanks for your help, Jookie's Ultrasatan website is your friend: http://joo.kie.sk/ultrasatan/ then pick ICD Pro or HDDriver for detailed instructions on how to proceed. Good luck! AstFan #3 Posted May 17, 2010 Prepartitioned, with driver, games - hard disk images here: http://ppera.07x.net/atari/fromhd.php Atari-PC compatible, with multiple partitions, depending from card size.
Aglae #4 Posted May 18, 2010 Prepartitioned, with driver, games - hard disk images here: http://ppera.07x.net/atari/fromhd.php Atari-PC compatible, with multiple partitions, depending from card size. Thanks That will most probably do the trick. Help very much appreciated. I think I found out why it wasn't working at first, it seems sdhc cards are an issue (at least for my old computers...) Thanks again pals.
Aglae #5 Posted May 28, 2010 I have been trying to boot from the Ultrasatan with the image found from http://ppera.07x.net web site (the 4 GB image) but the Atari ST won't see any HD attached to the computer (even after reboot as mentionned in the guide). I have also tried editing the image itself and copying/replacing the first 8 KB of the file with the one provided... still won't boot. Anymore ideas ? Thanks

Thanks Sometimes bootsector checksum getting corrupted - at least it happens by Satandisk. To fix it use MBRFACSI.TOS from attachment - run on Atari from floppy. If it helps not, then is possible that US don't like your SD card (brand). And you don't need to replace first 8KB - replacement is for IDE disks or CF cards. Still getting a read/write error. It seems it doesn't see the device connected. Could it be because of my TOS 1.0 ? I have been trying with 4 GB SD cards and 2 GB as well from different brands. Unfortunately it is getting pretty rare around here to find older/smaller cards.

Minimum is TOS 1.04 for decent work with hard disks. You need TOS upgrade, for sure. Edited May 28, 2010 by AstFan

I'm in the same boat, but I haven't tried it yet. I have new Ultrasatan sitting here, but haven't tried it yet. I bought TOS 1.4 but haven't installed it yet. I bought HDDRIVER too and have it here but haven't tried it yet. I've never used any HD on the ST before. Now I'm a little worried that I'm going to have problems when I try. When I get a power supply for my Ultrasatan and try it, I will post of my experience.

I've never used any HD on the ST before. Now I'm a little worried that I'm going to have problems when I try. ... I think that PP drivers will not work at all with TOS 1.00 . TOS 1.02 may work, but max partition size is 256MB, so can not use with images where are larger partitions. How Hddriver works with TOS 1.00 I don't know, but it can not be solution - TOS 1.00 is simply made before any serious hard disk usage on Ataris. We can talk like this: "going to have problems"... but consider that TOS 1.00 and 1.02 are very old, from era when usual hard disks were of 30-40MB capacity. Machines were with max 1MB RAM. If you put 4MB in some ST with TOS 1.00 it will work extremely slow. If you attach some bigger hard disk on it, will have only troubles. Later TOS versions very advanced to support better more RAM and hard disks of larger sizes. So, please took attitude: "I will solve problems" :-) In your case it should be easy - just replace TOS ROMs. Hopefully they fit in your machine - I say because very old mainboards support not 2 chip TOS.
