GrizzLee
Well my vote goes to Kaboom Not only (in my opinion) the best Atari paddle game but also one of the top games of all time period (any system). Amen brother! -Lee
bohoki
Solar Storm. You seriously have to try it.. i like night driver better than kaboom kaboom gets too hard too quick night driver the game where you are a blue wheelchair avoiding crayons
DickNixonArisen
Tac-Scan, encounter at L-5 and Astroblast are all shooters, breakout is almost a game type in itself (squash? puzzle? "blockbreaker"?), Super Breakout, Circus Atari is the same type - and warlords/medieval mayhem are a modified version of that. Kaboom I'd just call a "Catch" game, and beat em' and eat 'em. Night driver is a driving game, obviously. Pong, what amounts to it on the 2600, could be called catch more accurately than blockbreaker. There's also SCSIcide, which I understand is a "catch" style game. 3 shooters: Tac Scan and Enounter at L-5,(although Astroblast can use the joystick just fine) 9 "Blockbreaker": Breakout, Super Breakout, Warlords, Medieval Mayhem, Circus Atari, Fireball, Bachelor Party (x3 for bachelorette party and bachelor party/gigolo) 6 "Catch": Kaboom, Beat 'em and eat 'em, pong sports, SCSIcide (x3 for variations) 1 driving (night driver) 1 driving game with driving controller (indy 500) Whatever party mix is And Jedi Arena battles, what do you call that? DickNixonArisen
Aren't there any hockey or soccer games that use it? The 2600 could do a decent foosball I think.
Atari2600Lives
I tried Warlords before I actually owned paddles and really didn't like it. I'm surprised it's getting such good results! Warlords is great with other people though (and medieval mayhem even better).

Prodos8
Medieval Mayhem definitely! Breakout (the first one) is also one of my favorites.
DickNixonArisen
DickNixonArisen: Don't forget Casino!!! (my favorite paddle game). Hm. I looked it up and from what I see it seems to only use the paddles so that four people can play - is it possible to use the joystick at all? Roulette would have been a nice match to a spinning controller!

cvgplus
Kaboom all the way. Didn't realize so many people loved Kaboom
rpgfaker
1 more for Night Driver, I played the hell out of that. Kaboom! rules too and Pong.
pinball22
As to a foozball game, variations 19-22 of Video Olympics are called Foozpong. I love Kaboom, of course, but I think Demons to Diamonds should get more love... it's really quite entertaining (and has a much stranger concept than most games). Miss 2600
I was reading some Atari game reviews and learned that Canyon Bomber is also a paddle controlled game (although the AtariAge page says it is possible to use the joystick for certain parts of the game). AtariAge doesn't mention a joystick option for Casino so I think it is paddle control only.
DickNixonArisen
Ah, thanks. That explains why I didn't "get" canyon bomber. If I can recall correctly, I could get it to drop the bomb, but nothing else. I assumed that *was* the game. Still, it's easy to classify - it's a blockbreaker for sure, just turned upside down. 4 shooters: Tac Scan, demons to diamonds and Enounter at L-5,(although Astroblast can use the joystick just fine) 10 "Blockbreaker": Breakout, Super Breakout, Warlords, Medieval Mayhem, Canyon bomber, Circus Atari, Fireball, Bachelor Party (x3 for bachelorette party and bachelor party/gigolo) 9 "Catch": Kaboom, Eggomania, Jedi Arena Battles, Beat 'em and eat 'em, pong sports/video olympics (identical), SCSIcide (x3 for variations) 1 driving: night driver 1 driving game with driving controller (indy 500) 1 Card game: Casino 1 comp: party mix
fiddlepaddle
You're still missing "Street Racer", which has primitive graphics and may not be one of the better games. However, because it's a paddle game, it IS very responsive to your movements, and you can accelerate up to and beyond your ability to keep from crashing, making it a true challenge. I do enjoy playing it from time to time.
DickNixonArisen
Ooh, cool. I own that but don't remember the play very well.

Zoyx
For me... Kaboom, Medieval Mayhem, Super Breakout (progressive) and Fireball.
BigO
I remember really liking the "brickdown" game on the APF M1000 we had when I was a kid and I like to play Blockbuster on the Microvision now and then. I just don't know what it is about the Atari 2600 versions of Breakout that don't click with me. Edited May 27, 2010 by BigO
tremoloman2006
In no particular order: Circus Atari Demons To Diamonds Indy 500 (driving controller but I say it counts!) Medieval Mayhem (2+ players) Street Racer (2 players) Super Breakout Tac-Scan Video Olympics

I actually like Cobra Strike/Action force too, and I was missing it. Blackjack as well as Casino, interesting... I have picnic too, but I don't really play it. Solar Storm looks pretty good - the shooters seem to be pretty popular as far as responses here, so maybe that one should be tried out
BDW
I would have to vote Warlords and Tac-scan. Both games are hella fun, and Warlords is even better when you round up 3 other friends.
keilbaca
Medieval Mayhem Kaboom! Circus Atari Super Breakout In order of my favorites.
