dr_beep #1 Posted June 4, 2010 Hello to you all, The minigamecompo site seams to remain offline (well, I couldn't reach anyone who has the possibility to set the site online again despite several efforts). So I started a new site to host the compo for 2010. I hope to see your entries soon! Please if you can announce this on any other site! Dr Beep
Segataritensoftii #2 Posted June 7, 2010 (edited) I really hope you're not the only person with entries. Speaking of sizecoding competions, Did you ever hear about a web design competition called the 5K? It used to be a competition for creating websites that took up less than 5 kilobytes total. I'd really like to see something like that resurrected with observance of modern web standards and whatnot. That, and I just think web pages these days have lots of bloat and frivolous overuse of Javascript and HTML5 when it really doesn't need to be there and it just slows the page down. I guess I was just rambling again... Edited June 7, 2010 by Segataritensoftii
GreenDayRlz #3 Posted June 8, 2010 Is this for ANY system thats 8-Bit? And is there any sort of prize like....IDK....$0.50 gift 'o funny or something? I may have to enter into this if I can get it done ^_^

I may have to enter into this if I can get it done ^_^ Now added MazezaM for the ZX81. The compo is open for ANY 8 bit system, so Atari 800 XL, Atari 2600, C64, Vic20, MSX, ZX Spectrum etc... The prize is the digital golden/silver/bronze medaillon and eternal fame (well as long as the website is online, my fame is gone) and with a lot of positive response the incentive to keep coding. I am quite hooked on coding in 1K, 2K or 4K.

(BTW Atari 2600 is the first to join 1K, 2K and 4K) I'm sorry, 1K is out of my cathegory... I may try a 2K minigame for change, but I don't promise anything. It took me more than a week to think about it... you convince me to give it a try.

Wickeycolumbus #8 Posted September 4, 2010 I assume it's OK if I use a cartridge with extra RAM (not exceeding the ROM limits of course)?
Animan #9 Posted September 5, 2010 I am tempted to submit Trashmania, but it's technically a one year old game with a few updates I added a few days ago. I feel like that might be cheating...

Did it join earlier MiniGames? Not that I know of and updates are allowed (and can win).

dr_beep #12 Posted October 1, 2010 Voting of 1K ends on 30th september, so please sent in your votes!!!! Due to the low response on the 1k voting I have determined to extend the voting until monday 04-10-2010. This means that your vote must be IN on sunday. (I will check the mail on monday around 07:00 GMT, all mails before that time are considered in time). So this weekend you can still try out the games and enter your vote. dr_beep #14 Posted October 4, 2010 The 1K results are in, although only 3 persons have voted I can say that the votes are non-biased since each individual results looks a lot like other votings. And here is the score: 74% 1k Mazezam 70% Realm of Omari 66% Pitpat 65% Adventure 1K 64% Shogun 56% Qfrog 46% Pacman1k Update to the site follows tonight since I can't acces the site at work! Animan #16 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) I hate to complain, but I wanted to vote, but was instantly turned away by that big fat sheet I had to fill out. I understand where your coming from on it, but I think most people didn't vote because of that thing. WAY too long. I understand where your coming from on it, but I think most people didn't vote because of that thing. WAY too long. You can simply set all scores to 1 percentage. I think it can filter the games that are a closecall to a rank 1-2-3 etc.. BTW only 2 days remaining to vote on 2K and submission of 4K games!
newcoleco #18 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) I didn't make it in time, I'm sorry again. I've tested only 1 of the 2k minigames and this is my honnest opinion of it. I've tried "Where Is My Prince?" for the Commodore VIC-20 I was unable to find the prince each time I've played, and I even get stuck once in one screen by falling into a screen that leaded me into a very simple walls trap... so I was very unlucky. I like the graphics and I think the game do have potential with better controls (at least jumping more than a square high) and a tweaked screens generator. No in-game music, but it's understandable considering the size. I like the game but I can't forgive the trap I've falled into and there is no way to attack or defend which I think should be the purpose of the fire button in this kind of game when UP is used to jump. oh well, I would love to see a 4K version of this game, but if I had to evaluate this version, I will simply say this : it's not as good as it looks like... but it's the game that looks the best to me in the 2K cathegory. Again, I'm sorry to not fill up the XLS file and send it in time, but I didn't try them all and time is up. BTW I too fell in a blocked screen in WIMP. But as stated it has potential. I am working on a new website with forum for 2011. Hope this will attract more coders/voters. 4K voting is now possible.
