Crazy Kong - what's the real story?

Recommended Posts

Was Crazy Kong officially licensed by Nintendo and allow Falcon to sell it?

I know there are bootlegs of Crazy Kong that run on multiple hardware platforms such as Crazy Climber and Scramble hardware but according to Wiki they claim it was an official release.

It just looks and plays way too much like Donkey Kong to me not to be a bootleg.

I thought I'd ask the experts here to find out the real 411 on this odd title.

Licensed to Falcon...distributed illegally to the US by Falcon (due to the high demand that Nintendo couldn't keep up with).

Thanks for clearing that up for me. :)

I like the original Donkey Kong the best but I do have a special fondness for Crazy Kong for some odd reason...

I saw Crazy Kong for the first time at a small stationary/card shop in Bellmore, NY. I thought it may had been a DK update of some sort at the time.

Yes as Mark Alpiger states in the article I wrote for issue 4 of CVG "a licensed version of Donkey Kong for release outside of the US."

The CAGDC touney at Richie Knucklez in March was the first time Crazy Kong kill screens have been documented.

Wow! that's really impressive. I like crazy kong, however the collision detection is brutally unforgiving, and the modifications to the boards (I.E. the missing platforms) make it one of the hardest versions (if not the hardest) of donkey kong, that i've played. But some parts are easier than the original, for instance the game doesnt contain firefoxes, it just replaces them with fireballs. And fireballs are easier to deal with. and you can point press with them which is always a +1

Crazy Kong was kinda fun...you could rack up credits easily on a cocktail machine using a flattened straw :ahoy:

That Stationary store wouldn't have happened to have been on Newbridge Road would it?

Is their verson of Crazy Kong JR avable for download. I can not find it on the web. Do not tell me where if it is aginst the rules. just if it is avalble. If its not aginst the rules ok then.

I like this verson of the game a little better. It feels weird playing it. It looks different and had diferent sounds. The green verson is wicked. I like it though. Because you can't find Donky Kong on the web. It is protected by the IDSA. Donky Kong JR to.
