Paddle controller in a can

Recommended Posts

After the subsequent discussions in this thread regarding making a paddle controller less sensitive, I built this device in order to test out different potentiometers to see which ones gave the best increase in turn range while still maintaining full movement of in-game movable things.

Pics!

Empty corn cans make surprisingly comfortable controllers to use :)

I have to question the logic behind this. :ponder: ;)

There was little. I needed an enclosure, I saw an empty can and thought "This looks good enough" :)

Now as for selling it, if someone wants it I will gladly sell it for a few units of currency although one should know that it is very ramshackle and it's wire is likely to break off inside or at the connector

Wow, that is truly...well...hideous. But, I admire the sheer thriftiness of it all.

In some circles (possibly not politically correct ones), that'd be called "ghetto-fab".

While in more politically correct company, I'd say it's the "rat rod" of video game controllers. :)

I think it looks really cool. I'd say it's more of a "steam punk" look. People love that stuff. Run with it!

Ah, steampunk. What does it mean? As a punk rocker, owner of victorian era-clocks, sci-fi and fantasy fiction reader, and long-time tabletop RPG'er, I have no fucking clue. Basically they put gears in it.

I disagree with BigO, I think that looks damn sexy

DickNixonArisen, you're describing clockpunk, which many people mistake for steampunk -- neither of which has anything to do with punk rock music. They're very similar, embodying the Victorian design ethic of brass, copper, and glass, along with exposed working mechanical parts; as well as optionally including nicely finished dark wood. The difference is, that steampunk is literally steam-powered, or should at the very least include metal piping or tubing that gives it the appearance of being steam-powered. If it only has a lot of exposed mechanical elements with nothing relating to steam, it's clockpunk.

The ingenuity and creativeness of you people here never ceases to amaze me. That's damn awesome if you ask me.

It would be 10X better had you left the label on!

I dont want to get started on defining steampunk etc and I'm sick of people putting the word punk on the end of things, all I will say is what I allways find myself saying: Sticking gears to it or painting it brass doesn't make it steampunk.

Lets leave it at that :|

ANYWAY! Thanks for the compliments as to my design chaps, for the lols I may sell one or two, but the button on this one is starting to stop working  So I'll need to get some better parts.

Well DUH anyone here knows that, basic stuff. I was merely using the more popular form so as not to offend the other posters by pointing out their mistake. I felt it the gentlemanly thing to do.

I wonder if it's your humor detector that's out of calibration or mine.

Things liek this get me going, too. I love it when people make stuff out of things they were never intended to be and they still work. I do the same type of thing when I have time. My joystick tester is testament to that.

Great can controller!
