tz101 #1 Posted June 17, 2010 With the release of the 2600 pause kit being sold here on AA, it will only be a matter of time before world record scores start falling. It just makes sense that with the opportunity to rest those tired hands during a marathon playing session (it would even be possible to pause your VCS console overnight and pick up where you left off the next day), players will attain higher and higher scores on classic VCS games. I equate this to the way modern sports records have fallen in the major leagues since the seasons have continually expanded. After all, a season of 1000 yards rushing meant something when the NFL only played 12 games a season. Now, a 1000 yard season is commonplace during the standard 16-game season. Recycled #2 Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) Interesting theory. But the games won't "expand" by pausing them; plus there are other variables, like losing a life when attempting to pause, as well as crashing when resuming game play due to being out of sink from stopping. We'll just have to wait and see if you're correct. Edited June 17, 2010 by Recycled
Nukey Shay #3 Posted June 17, 2010 "World Record" attempts are invalid where hacks are concerned.
SekOner #4 Posted June 18, 2010 "World Record" attempts are invalid where hacks are concerned. yeah thats what i thought. If you look on Twin Galaxies for instance every since game rule requirement also states that if you pause your game you are disqualified. Yes, i think this does open up the opportunity and the possibility to attain higher scores, However none of them will ever be considered "World Records" because during a Official Record attempt its playing a full game non-stop. Pausing a game is always strictly prohibited. But either way its still fun for your personal best, or maybe if unofficial records attempts in a tourny allows them.

+Nathan Strum #6 Posted June 18, 2010 There's nothing to stop an unscrupulous player from cheating though. It would be crazy-stupid-easy to submit false scores to Twin Galaxies (if they're still accepting videotapes as "proof"). Just use any video editing software to edit out the pauses. I would be extremely surprised if there aren't a bunch of false scores at TG thanks to the wonders of iMovie or the like.
Miss 2600 #7 Posted June 19, 2010 Maybe they could add an asterisk to any records set in the "pause kit era"

After watching the guy in Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade, he looks away a lot to write things down, so he probably wouldn't be the hardest guy to fool. I think he has a 700 pound cat named Mister Fluffums or something like that (which could also be a distraction). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZfITj0166w#t=0m43s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZfITj0166w&rel=0&fmt=18&showinfo=0&start=
DickNixonArisen #9 Posted June 19, 2010 They watch the videos very carefully, even going frame-to-frame, if anything is suspected. Some videos that are (probably) legit get rejected due to various anomalies of the format. If I was going for a record, I would have two cameras - one focused on the screen, another on myself and the screen at the same time. That'd be pretty hard to fake. homerwannabee #11 Posted June 21, 2010 I asked this question on Twin Galaxies. I am pretty sure that they will confirm that you can't use this pause kit. Personally I hope this is the case. Because it would be a crying shame if someone was able to break Todd Rogers Pac-man score, and Journey Escape score using this technology.
+Omegamatrix #12 Posted June 21, 2010 Your record's safe with me, Homer. I won't hack Galaxian and break it ha ha. In terms of requirements, I think video taping yourself and the game simultaneously is a good idea. Makes it much more credible IMHO.
