Playing Martial Champion in MAME

The game itself runs fine, but when I try to enable blood, it gives me a Version Error. I've followed the instructions about creating the EEPROM on the MAME help page, but then it doesn't enable the blood anymore. Anyone know what I have to do?

Don't think i've ever come across that one, and i have all mame roms up to .137 (less chd's, as they are too big)
