mbd30 #2 Posted June 21, 2010 Those weird ASCII text characters such as the smiley faces were often used for graphics in computer games back in the day. Note the hero in "Kingdom Of Kroz". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QB2QNxmTq5o
Tempest #3 Posted June 21, 2010 The IBM version of Rogue uses all those weird symbols for the game. Tempest
Video #4 Posted June 21, 2010 I love rogue, wish I could find my copy. That's weird that your computer gets all fuggly when starting with frogger in it. I've had occasional discs not allow the computer to come on when inserted, but never had one put all that junk on the screen. Wonder if you took the HDD out if it would go to the game? (like maybe your right and it is supposed to be bootable without windows?) I playe Morrowind a lot on PC, but if I leave the game in the drive, the "read" light comes on, and the drive isn't responsive (and can't be accessed, or even seen fron the control panel. Weird, but I don't leave it in there often, so it's no big deal, but I actually have to eject when the computer is first turned on if I do leave it in, or it screwes up the driver. And I can tell you, I hate my own voice too, so it's not just you
Tr3vor #5 Posted June 21, 2010 Wonder if you took the HDD out if it would go to the game? (like maybe your right and it is supposed to be bootable without windows?) no, it needs directx and other windows stuff to run, I wonder if it finds the kind of file that an OS starts with on the disk and tries to run it? I don't know, but I wonder if this happens with other "American Megatrends" bioses, or maybe others have to have the same CD rom drive? Its wierd. hex65000 #6 Posted June 21, 2010 Most likely you have the bios set to try to boot from the CD rom first then the hard disk. Reverse that and you should have no problems. It looks like the system sees something bootable on the Frogger CD and then it turns out to be junk and the screen goes wonky. Try the fix mentioned above -- that should heal it. Hex.
