Deans Foods using Atari Font to market to our generation?

Recommended Posts

Or is it just crazy coincidence!

Saw this in one of my stores yesterday and had to snap a pic! I recognized it instantly as the Atari 2600 font.

I am a nerd.

Ahh man you beat me to post by 2 minutes. That means we were literally making that same label at the exact same time! Great minds think alike. It took me a little longer because i was looking for the perfect picture

It isn't really Atari-specific at all,

I beg to differ. That font is forever burned into my memory as the "Atari 2600" font, therefore, relatively it is very Atari-specific for me! Hence this thread! :D

ls650, I'm curious that the Sour Cream game uses Paddle Controllers...! Care to divulge? :P

Maybe someone that develops packaging for Dean's Foods is into Atari. I think someone needs to contact them and give them props...

The font is a version of Bauhaus. The Bauhaus typeface family has been around since the 1920s. It isn't really Atari-specific at all, and if you keep looking for it, you'll find in lots of places.

'zactly. It's actually quite a popular font. I've noticed in the last few years it has made a bit of a comeback, but so has everything 70's.

IIRC Triumph also used that same font to advertise the TR-7 model. They also had Alan Alda, the poster child for "Average guy in America" advertise the TR-6, who also did Atari 8-bit computers.

I thought the font was called hammerfat. I work for the USPS & I see it ALL the time.

Hammer Fat is very similar to Bauhaus. The word ATARI in the "fuji" logo is Hammer Fat, as is the text on the first Atari text-label carts. Later production changed the font on the text labels to Bauhaus. Only a few letters are noticeably different, such as "e" and "y". The console bezel text also changed.

Lol, thats funny because I was at the dollar store the other day and noticed a bottle of body was with the computerized looking Intellivision font, it was even in green lettering. I almost got it just for that reason. I'll try to get a picture if I csan some time.

Yes, in "Cultured Sour Cream" you are a bacteria culture that must convert regular cream into the soured variety. The follow-up game, "Low Fat Yogurt", was unreleased due to the crash of '83.

EECH...keep the Ren picture out of it, please!

Eh, that's not Ren. That's some bastard's version of the Taco Bell Chihuahua.

Since you're obviously not a "Ren & Stimpy" fan, I'll forgive you that insult to Ren.

Once.

;)
