ID time-traveling vertical shooter game?

Late 80s/early 90s.

 

It's a typical shooter, but you travel to various time periods & shoot stuff.

 

Anyone know what this one is?

Not Time Pilot, but similar. You are in a plane flying around said time periods. One of the end level bosses looks like some strange ornithopter(sp?).

Yep, that's the one. Thanks. I just remember going to an arcade with a friend in '90 and he played this game. The weird boss characters stuck in my mind.

Cool. For the most part I was never a fan of the scrolling shooters or fighting games. To me they represented formulaic games and helped kill off new ideas and creativity in arcades. Having said that, there were a handful of scrollers and fighting games that I could tolerate or even like. Some of them because of their themes, graphics, or other unique elements that raised them above the rest. In addition to Sky Soldiers I kinda liked In The Hunt, Legendary Wings, Gradius, Sunset Riders, Shinobi and probably a couple other I can't remember now.
