tz101 #1 Posted June 27, 2010 I have found that Telesys game carts for VCS tend to be broken when I find them at thrifts or yard sales. Specifically, the PCB's tend to work loose inside the plastic shell and are usually positioned crooked where I cannot even plug the game into my Atari console. I can usually wiggle the circuit board by hand like a plastic stop has broken loose, only there is nothing rattling inside the cartridge like a loose part is floating around in there. Two copies of Cosmic Creeps have turned up this way. Was Telesys just cheap in their manufacturing practices?
shadow460 #2 Posted June 27, 2010 Are they the square carts or the ones with handles? The square ones look awfully similar to the Apollo ones I've found busted. There's a post inside the Apollo carts that doesn't seem to be used, and its perfect for driving a screw into to hold the board in place.
tz101 #3 Posted June 27, 2010 Square carts, and the other problem is that they are not screwed together (removed the labels with a heat gun) so I need to physically force the case open to see what's wrong inside. I did open the first Cosmic Creeps cart by force and did not see exactly what would have held the board in place to begin with.
JingleJoe #4 Posted June 27, 2010 I did open the first Cosmic Creeps cart by force and did not see exactly what would have held the board in place to begin with. Well there's your problem. I am guessing the boards were held in by the willpower of Telesys, the god of wind and that green stuff on circuit boards. However over time and with the decline of Atari, the power of Telesys faded and his work in this world is begining to come undone.
homerwannabee #6 Posted June 27, 2010 If I am not mistaken, Wonder007 could always need more Telesys carts. If they are broken, I am positive that he would pay for shipping for those carts if he still needs them.
jaybird3rd #7 Posted June 27, 2010 Well, considering that Telesys games were originally sold for something like $1.99 with a $2 mail-in rebate, it isn't surprising that they were built cheap, or that they'd be falling apart over twenty years later. shadow460 #8 Posted June 28, 2010 OK, that's it. I want any new Telesys games to come in a handle cart! (actually, that's what all my Telesys games are in, and I've got an extra handle shell...)
tz101 #9 Posted June 28, 2010 OK, that's it. I want any new Telesys games to come in a handle cart! (actually, that's what all my Telesys games are in, and I've got an extra handle shell...) I've never seen the handle cart. Can you post a pic?
