A Day Traveling Michigan Pinball Arcades...

Recommended Posts

So... I took the day off and found out I really didn't have anything to do today.

So I planned a fieldtrip for myself. I've been meaning to go to a few pinball areas around my house, but never got around to it. So today, after hitting the post office and Starbucks, I pointed the car in the direction of 696 and headed to Walled Lake for my first stop at Crazy Carls!

I got there when the place opened up and was smiling ear to ear! Pinballs everywhere!

I played a few dollars worth of the older EM games. They have a great selection and all of them seemed to work great and appeared to be recently serviced.

Then I decided to have a bit of fun with Fun House and a few of the newer games (Family Guy and Iron Man and Batman).

All of those games were great. I really enjoyed the Iron Man, and Family Guy. The fun part of Family guy, I really liked the mini Pinball field of Stewie's Pinball. That was a neat little idea. I kept playing that to get up there and keep trying to rack up points. :)

After Carls, I was heading towards Marvins. However I got side-tracked. I spotted another place that was selling pinball games. I whipped my car in there, offered to trade my Pontiac G6 for a 60-something Charger that pulled in at the same time (unfortunately, the guy declined my offer... even after I said I would throw in a soda. Oh Well... his loss). When I got in, I was looking around at what seemed to be pretty high priced pinballs. Perhaps I would see something I like though so I can keep an eye out for one in the near future. They had two Theaters of Magic (which I played at Marvins) and then I saw the one I was hoping to see: Creature From The Black Lagoon! It was turned off but the guy offered to turn it on to let me try it out for a few games! It had something wrong with it, as it kept resetting itself. So I never got to see the hologram in action. But i was grinning ear to ear from just getting to try it! :)

Next stop Marvins. AMAZING! I am going back this weekend with one of the kiddos and the wife! I had so much fun there. If you live in Michigan, and you haven't been there before, you HAVE to go. That place is really cool.

Anyone else planning a miniature vacation for yourself?! This morning, I simply figured that it was time to do that! It was my treat to myself (aside from the Starbucks Latte).

Can you tell me more about Marvin's? I've seen him and his place on television once or twice, and seen his website, but I don't know if I should make the trip there. I'm from New Jersey. Does he have a lot of games? Is the place big? Of course I'd go to some other places in Michigan, but that's the main focal point of the trip.

Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum? My grandma used to take me there when I was little. We'd save up quarters and go every once in a while. Great memories there :)

Yep... Marvins is a very cool and unique place. Lots of stuff you will never see at other places. Most of the items are odd items and you stick a quarter in it just to satisfy your curiosity. If you like pinballs... It has a row of some of the better ones. A very clean Fun House. Simpsons, theater of magic, family guy, adams family, iron man, pirates of the carribean, lord of the rings... And on em machine: eldorado.

Right down the road is crazy carls... A lot of em pins there and a good selection of newer stuff too. Well worth the trip. I thought I read about a guy further north that throws a pinball party every year. I'm not sure about that one though.
