+save2600 #3 Posted July 8, 2010 For people painting controllers and such, how well do the paint jobs hold up? I'd suspect between friction, warmth, sweat and our natural saltiness - wouldn't be too long before marring and melting would occur...
Cebus Capucinis #4 Posted July 8, 2010 With a latex dye you won't see those problems. The issue with paint is that it doesn't properly bond and adhere to the plastic, so like you're saying, it just sits on top with a "coat" that will easily mar and come off. With a professional-grade vinyl dye or latex dye the dye actually adheres properly and bonds so you won't see those problems, both literally and figuratively! I learned that the hard way by spray-painting a whole crap-ton of plastic which ended up having to be tossed!
+save2600 #5 Posted July 8, 2010 With a latex dye you won't see those problems. I wasn't aware that the vinyl dye comes in spray form. I guess you could use it in a sprayer as well. I have yet to experiment with the stuff. The jobs people are doing always looks great!
Cebus Capucinis #6 Posted July 8, 2010 Yep! Rattle cans of it are sold in auto parts stores for around $11 a can. It's spendy stuff but works great! I actually used it in the interior of my Trans Am.

carmel_andrews #9 Posted July 11, 2010 I guess you apply the dye stuff after you have done the paint job, do you apply the dye by painting/brushing it on or do you just slowly dip the casing of the controller into a small container of the dye (makes sure you get an even coating of the stuff)
