A.J. Franzman
Here's my revised and annotated version of the list. I deleted the "YR" column, since there was no info in it. I have added several titles, also renamed and moved several titles (Amiga Power Module, etc.) but I did not intentionally delete anything. I tried to match up titles here with those in Rom Hunter's collection to mark as "FOUND", did I miss any? Please let me know if I made any errors and what additional annotations should be made. For example, which of the Ultravision titles were not intended to be VCS games? Also, if possible please confirm or correct any entries with question marks. For titles which should be noted as "EXISTS" or "MAY EXIST", please cite a source if possible, unless you're Tempest. Any titles for unreleased hardware I simply marked as "(hardware) UNRELEASED", since even if those binaries exist, almost nobody will ever get to play them unless someone adds the functionality of the hardware to an emulator -- a highly unlikely event, IMO. I renamed the My First Computer entries as The Graduate, since that's the most familiar (to me) of that add-on's several names. Unreleased Atari 2600 Carts (OLD LIST -- Some of these have been found, some are aliases of released titles, and some are titles for other systems never intended for the VCS) Key: ALIAS game is better known by another name-- in most cases, released FOUND game exists and binary has become readily available to the public EXISTS game prototype, EPROM, or binary has been discovered or is believed to be in a private collection but the binary is not publicly released MAY EXIST at least one credible source confirms that at least some coding of the game was started ALIAS+EXISTS Space Mission was a working title shown in ads for what Atari released as Star Ship. The game was also released by Sears as Outer Space. However, one person has found an Atari-branded cartridge bearing the Space Mission name. EXISTS+ALIAS one copy of the Pink Panther game is known to exist. The game is known by several different titles. Titles without any entry in the NOTES column may never have been started. If the NOTES entry is a system name, that title was not a VCS game. Tempest
A few notes: Aerial Ace was just a WIP name for Sky Patrol I believe Astrochase most definitely exists, I saw the prototype (not in action, just the actual proto) Squish 'em would have been released as The Fall Guy by TCF Catch the Fly was a WIP name for Picnic Splendour may exist, catalogs seem to indicate so Pepper II never got past the screen layout phase. There was no working prototype, just some graphics of the background Kyphus has been found (the unlabeled Apollo proto) Honker Bonker may or may not be the same game as Holey Moley. I keep getting conflicting info on this one. I would count it as a separate game for now. Soap Suds is a WIP name for Boing (prototype has been found with this label) Survival Run prototype exists Thundarr the Barbarian was a WIP name for Tomarc the Barbarian Forest by Panada was eventually released by Sancho in PAL land I'm not sure if 2600 Star Raiders II is the same thing as 2600 TLSF/Solaris. Just because they did it on the 8-bit doesn't mean they'd do it on the 2600. Tempest

Wickeycolumbus
Galaga does not exist, only a few test screens were done to show that it wasn't feasible on the VCS. I doubt EPROMs were burned for it. Also, these may still exist (all from Atari): Pipeline "Submarine Simulator" "Real Time Chess" Foxbat is most probably the WIP title of Realsports Baseball, since they have the same model number. No, it was a completely different game

Interesting. Where did you hear that? The programmer (Greg Easter) told me. I suppose it could have been reassigned to someone else though. Pipeline "Submarine Simulator" "Real Time Chess" Tell me more. Tempest Pipeline was a surfing game, don't know too much about it. It was definitely started, don't know how far along it got though. Submarine Simulator and Real Time Chess were both by Greg Easter. Here are his descriptions: an original title that was kind of a real-time chess with fewer pieces that you had to navigate through a maze past enemy pieces (kind of hard to explain). I only spent about 2-3 weeks on the submarine game, but it did have a massive interface built with about 20 different controls you could manipulate by using the joystick to select which control you wanted to move, then the button to pick it, then the joystick again to move it, and the button to release the control and go to the next control Unfortunately, he doesn't believe any EPROMs were burned for the Chess game

A.J. Franzman
Aerial Ace was just a WIP name for Sky Patrol I believeCatch the Fly was a WIP name for Picnic These are in my Aliases file so I should have caught them. Astrochase most definitely exists, I saw the prototype (not in action, just the actual proto)Soap Suds is a WIP name for Boing (prototype has been found with this label) Survival Run prototype exists These are all news to me, thank you. Squish 'em would have been released as The Fall Guy by TCFI knew that, but what I don't know, is whether the game was changed at all in order to fit the name change. Is it just an alias, or are we looking for two slightly different games, like Saboteur and The A-Team? Or perhaps games with bigger differences, such as The Last Starfighter and Solaris, Solaris and Radar Lock, or even The Last Starfighter and Radar Lock? Splendour may exist, catalogs seem to indicate soHmm, I don't know if a catalog entry is enough for a "May Exist"... didn't many of the names in this topic come from catalogs? I guess I'll take your word for it for now. Pepper II never got past the screen layout phase. There was no working prototype, just some graphics of the backgroundIf the screen demos were running on a VCS, I count that as a "May Exist". I would count it as a separate game for now.OK, I've added a question mark on this alias. Thundarr the Barbarian was a WIP name for Tomarc the BarbarianI knew that, but what's with the "I/II"? Were there really two games in the pipeline, and if so, what happened regarding "II"? Forest by Panada was eventually released by Sancho in PAL landOK, I should have made that connection. They did assign me that temporarily when Snow White seemed to be done about the third time. Galaga simply could not be done within the limitations of the 2600 - at least not in such a way as to look anything like the arcade game. I think I did a couple of graphic screens that would display on a 2600 to show them what the game would look like. This way I cut to the chase and avoided investing tons of labor in something that they would only dismiss later as not looking like the arcade game. Remember it has been 27 years ago for me now, so I can't recall exactly what happened. Edited July 22, 2010 by Wickeycolumbus

A.J. Franzman
"Foxbat" is also the NATO reporting name for the MiG-25 Soviet fighter plane, so adding to the confusion. But it seems a bit early for an American game to be named for an enemy weapon; the Cold War wasn't exactly winding down just yet. Maybe there are other examples that would make this seem less unusual?

Wickeycolumbus
These are also missing: Peek-A-Boo Monstercise Good Luck, Charlie Brown Dune Wizard The Survival Run ROM is online by the way I'm not sure if 2600 Star Raiders II is the same thing as 2600 TLSF/Solaris. Just because they did it on the 8-bit doesn't mean they'd do it on the 2600.All right, I've put a question mark on this one as well. Thank you very much for all the info! I asked Gary Stark about this, this is what he said I was flown down to Hollywood to see a pre-release version of "The Last Starfighter". We did a game on this that was later converted into Star Raiders II. He later went on to say he doesn't know anything about SRII becoming Solaris. It's probably safe to assume they are the same thing since SRII was based on The Last Starfighter movie. A.J. Franzman
Wickey, I'm adding those and several more from Atariprotos.com. Tempest, do you know what's the story with Boing!? Your site credits it as First Star, but the original list above shows it as Atari and Xonox.
Legend
Sword and the Sorceror,The Coleco 291905 No way?!?! Based on the movie with Lee Horsley? I love that movie. It would have been awesome to see a game based on this. I hope a playable demo at least exists and gets released/leaked.

First Star: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-boing_12092.html A lab loaner was found at Atari after that. One version came in a Xonox type cart, hence the confusion I think. Your site credits it as First Star, but the original list above shows it as Atari and Xonox. First Star: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-boing_12092.html A lab loaner was found at Atari after that. One version came in a Xonox type cart, hence the confusion I think. Alex Leavens and Shirley Russell did the game and sold it to First Star (they were freelance programmers). First Star released it, but since they didn't have they're own case design they used two different suppliers one of which was the same group who did the XonoX cases. After the crash Atari considered releasing the game like they did with the Coleco games but never did. Hence the First Star > Xonox > Atari connection.
