C128 PSU

Recommended Posts

(I originally posted this is the wrong forum) I have been using a modified C128 PSU for my C64. I now have a second C64 and don't trust the original C64 PSU's, so could I add an extra plug to my C128 PSU to power my second C64?

Thanks.

Probably not at the same time, safely. The original C64 supply is 1.5A on the +5V, and 1A for each leg of the 9VAC. The 128 has 2.5A on the +5, but still only 1A for each of the 9VAC.

I wouldn't try it due the AC draw. I'm not positive how much current the C64 draws on the 9VAC lines, but I'm sure it's not half the rating. :)

Yeah, I agree, I wouldn't try it. The C128 PSU is beefier, and thus more reliable - if you try to feed it to two C64s at once, you're right back where you were with the crappy C64 PSUs in that regard.

Now, if you feel like modding the PSU to make it even beefier, then it might be doable. Not with a stock PSU, though.
