What the FSCK?!?!

Recommended Posts

Believe it or not, Atari actually did ship a 4MB version of the ST designated the 4160STE. I have never personally seen one, and I doubt they saw wide distribution, but I have heard of them. Don't know if they ever made it to the States, or if it was just sold in Europe.

Too cool! I've been gearing up for mass upgrades on my STF, but if I can win this auction, I'll use my 1040STF power supply and it's disk drive(hooked up as a second drive). 8)

Yeah...

The only mention I ever heard of this version of the ST was in the EGM 1989 Year-End issue.

I don' t have the magazine in front of me, but it said something along the lines of "With all the excitement from the Lynx and introduction of the 4160STe super computer in Europe, Atari has put of the introduction of a 16 bit console..."

The article goes on to say "1989 didn't put Atari in the lead, but it certainly put them back on the map."

Cheers!

Joey

Reading the auction, I noticed that this 4160 "Has 520STE on its label on the bottom."

It's an original 4160, or an expanded STE??

From what Albert said and what the auction descriptions states, it seems that memory upgrades and new ST computer face-plate labels were sent to dealers in Europe/England as "official" upgrades, which would modify either a 520STE or 1040STE into a real 4160STE. This presumably was the only official way to get one of these STE's; they were never made in factories because the Mega's were soon to follow. So this would be as close as your going to get to the "real deal" and it was an official upgrade-computer from Atari...
