Arcade Quality stick for PS2; scratch build?

Recommended Posts

So far, I haven't come up with a suitable arcade stick for the PS2...so I'm thinking of taking the housing from the X Arcade stick and put in the guts from an actual arcade stick. I've tried so many different sticks over the years, and now they're pretty scarce for PS2...at least where I am.

I'm mainly looking to play the Namco series. I'm really pleased with the quality of the Museum titles, but so far I haven't found ONE stick that offers the response of what these games deserve. I'm not sure if it's a programming thing, either...I read once that the controls for the museum games are analog and that's why even Namco's own Tekken stick isn't compatible (there's annoying lag, and sometimes you just get NO movement!).

So...it's going to be a project of sorts. Any tips, tricks of the trade? Thanks!

I have one of these things which is supposed to work with the PS2 and I'm about to hack to work with my Mac. Did you try it and not like it?

I'll let you know the stick I have at home. There's switches to have it emulate the analog stick, so you can use it during Namco Museum. Its a Hori stick...

It uses Hori arcade parts, which are basically cheap Sanwa parts. But, you can mount any joystick into it, its pretty easy to do so, so you can get yourself a real 4 way stick and throw it in there with relative ease.

I converted the above stick to work on the X360, and it works good, but the Tekken 5 stick that I converted works better. It also has a 4 way stick I robbed from a pac-man plug and play on the inside of it, and its built into an arcade size control panel.

If you really want to build your own, in which I'd recommend because you sound like you're just as picky as I am... then you can get the stick that I have just for the control board, so you can use the joystick as an analog stick, and have the controls that you want.
