4Ks #1 Posted July 14, 2010 The flipside to fdurso224's most entertaining and prolific thread. For me, the best looking systems are: Game Boy Advance SP (like a mini-ds) N-Gage QD (very well rounded) Genesis 2 + CD (they mesh like cogs) Intellivision (old school cool) Jaguar + CD (aesthetically pleasing) Atari XEGS (angles are cool) PS1 slim (nice and compact)
108 Stars #2 Posted July 14, 2010 1. Mega Drive 1 2. PlayStation 3 Phat 3. PSP 1000 4. Dreamcast 5. Nintendo
The_Laird #3 Posted July 14, 2010 The Jaguar with the Megadrive 1 a close runner up. For a Handheld it has to be the Lynx

128Kgames #5 Posted July 14, 2010 Neo Geo AES, period. It's like the Lamborghini Countach of game consoles.

Chuck D. Head #9 Posted July 14, 2010 Here are the best looking IMO: Gamecube - the handle is dumb but usually not visible - Nice looking system, but don't care for the blue - looks great in black or platinum Dreamcast - love the sleek, simple look, even though the controller looks a little busy Atari 5200 or 7800 - very smooth wedge look Game Boy Advance SP - very nice especially in metallic red or blue Genesis - Version
rjchamp3 #10 Posted July 14, 2010 I think the TG 16 system was the nicest one of all
tz101 #11 Posted July 15, 2010 1. Intellivision I (sleek, and lots of woodgrain) 2. Genesis II (aerodynamic like a sports car) 3. Atari VCS 6-switch (classic 70's woodgrain look) 4. Atari 5200 (big and sleek) 5. N64 (lots of curves)
Gabriel #12 Posted July 15, 2010 1. Atari 5200. 2. Atari 7800. 3. Sears Telegames II / Atari 2800. 4. Sony PSP (original model) 5. Sega Genesis Model 1 with or without Sega CD Model
Vic George 2K3 #13 Posted July 15, 2010 The Atari 5200 and Atari 7800, with their futuristic "wing" look. The Super Famicom and European Super NES. The Nintendo 64, which looks better in colors (not counting the limited edition Pikachu casing). The Genesis 2.
MagitekAngel #14 Posted July 15, 2010 I'm probably just enamored with it because I just got it today, but the TurboDuo is one sleek and sexy piece of kit.
Tr3vor #15 Posted July 15, 2010 1: NES: old things seem more square than new things, I like square 2: 2600: a really odd shape compared to other consoles. 3: SNES: more boxy, although they could have put more colors on it.
Austin #16 Posted July 15, 2010 In no particular order.. Jaguar (minus the CD attachment), Genesis 2 + Sega CD Model 2 together, Dreamcast, XBOX 360 white stood vertically, Atari Lynx Model 2, N-Gage QD.. I may be missing a few.
goldenegg #17 Posted July 15, 2010 My favourites are the CoreGrafx (I prefer the grey to the lighter colour of the original PCE) and Sega CDX.
+FujiSkunk #18 Posted July 15, 2010 My favorite is the Vader 2600. Going all black was perfect for the early '80s, and even now it manages to look both retro and contemporary at the same time.
STICH666 #19 Posted July 15, 2010 Neo Geo AES, period. It's like the Lamborghini Countach of game consoles. So it has no rear visibility hence making it impossible to park anywhere? I'd have to say the Master System or the Fat PS3. Nothing says I just spent $600 on a blu-ray player like chrome accents.
jeremysart #20 Posted July 15, 2010 Hmm, this is a hard one, because there aren't many that I don't think are pretty to look at (with the action max as an exception) As for prettiest, I have to say the INTV System III imo. Its got that look that is a cross between classic and modern. Big and boxy, but black, glossy, with the silver panels.. its a nice sleek looking machine to keep on display. I think the Colecovision is a close runner up for the same reasons, I just think the INTV looks a little more slick. And in order descending Atari VCS 2600 (any model except the Jr.) For on the the first real gaming consoles ever, it looks really nice, and you cant help but to feel nostalgic when you look at it. NES (toaster model) This one seems to be love/hate, but personally I like its design, which was attempt to match the late 80's American "hi-fi" look of entertainment center appliances. I absolutely hate having to push the carts down like a VHS tape, but it also gives off the same nostalgic vibe that the VCS makes me feel. Other than that, the 5200/7800 are pretty slick, and the model 1 Genesis with Sega CD and the Master System adapter with the hue card slot plugged in top looks pretty cool too, also has that cluttered hi-fi look like its going to transform into something. I don't necessarily thing the GBA SP is the nicest looking, but I certainly do find it to be one of the most comfortable handhelds I have ever owned. The NES special edition one is pretty cool looking too.
ls650 #21 Posted July 15, 2010 IMHO the Vectrex is a cool looking console. The woody Ataris look very cool if you enjoy the retro faux woodgrain look.
Lendorien #22 Posted July 15, 2010 (edited) Personally, I think the 1st gen PS3 is a looker. Ok, the piano finish is not practical, but it sure looks nice. The new PS3? Yeah, not so much. For older systems, I really do think the Atari 2600 Vader is a nice looking console. I think the design looks good an black. My Vader is in really good shape. I actually prefer it over the heavy sixer. Sacrilege, I know. In terms of practicality, I really like the toaster NES and the PS2, if only because you can stack things on them. FLANNERY #23 Posted July 15, 2010 I'll go with the atari 2600 wood grain veriants. The playstation 3 fatty and the xbox 360 slim as the prettiest game systems of all time. The rest are just ether there or ok.
jetset #24 Posted July 15, 2010 I'm sorry, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that crap, but are you guys serious with saying the Gamecube? That has to be the most boring and unimaginative design in the history of gaming. The designers were either out of ideas, or just decided to go with a design so terminally lame they knew it had not yet been done, and would never be imitated. Reaperman #25 Posted July 15, 2010 (edited) I'm sorry, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that crap, but are you guys serious with saying the Gamecube? That has to be the most boring and unimaginative design in the history of gaming. The designers were either out of ideas, or just decided to go with a design so terminally lame they knew it had not yet been done, and would never be imitated. That was some cutting edge design when it came out. All the magazines raved about Gamecube's looks. It was so compact compared to the other systems, and had a nice friendly handle. Pair it with any number of cute cases and life gets even better. It begged to be dressed up. I'd say that a solid half of the reason I bought one was the styling. Afterward, system kind of turned to crap game-wise, and the design's impact wore off with its market saturation, but I still like the looks of it. Trendy, compact, functional. Wandering a bit, I know it takes all kinds of fruit to make fruit cup, but 2600 as a pretty system? It looks like a cheap breadbox. I can get more on board with XEGS, 800XL, or even JagCD. I can see why folks would be attracted to those ataris, but the 2600 is something I'll never understand. Edited July 15, 2010 by Reaperman
