Best Service for Homebrew Box Printing?

Recommended Posts

AtariAge can whip up a cart but what about the box? I've seen CPUWIZ offer a template. I've seen the tutorial on making your own. Is there a service out there that does both box making and printing? If needs be it doesn't have to be Atari 2600 box size - just as long as a cart can fit in it nicely.

Another option might be to use an Ace Case Portfolio and just print inserts, like Byte Knight did with his most excellent Evil Magician Returns.

I spoke with Marc once. I forget since it's been awhile, but I got a little confused from the language barrier I think.

I believe he said he can't do me a small quantity like 20, but he can do print runs which would be like 500 boxes or something, but I never did get a price.

Like I said I forget since it's been awhile, but I think that was it.

Hi theloon. icon_smile.gif

Try to contact retroillucid or Pixelboy here at AtariAge.

They may also be able to help you.

You'll have a hard time finding a company that will print boxes for you in small quantities, especially if you're looking for high quality. This year, I'm working with a contact in Germany and the only way I can get a good price is if I have boxes for over 6 games printed all at the same time, each box defined as a professional-grade PDF template. So I'll be paying a bundle of money, but the "per-box" price will be acceptable. If you want to keep things small, I can't really help you...

How about something like a VHS or DVD plastic shell? Cut some foam pieces that fill the shell but have a rectangular hole for the cart. Print off a cover insert with a color printer, and you have a slick looking case that will protect your cart.

Thanks for more ideas guys! I think RevEng and ls650 have the most practical chance of working for the newbie homebrewer.

@PixelBoy: Thank you for the preemptive response! It seems you have to be semi-pro to get real boxes done. With a semi-pro stash of pocket change to boot.

From the feedback so far I got away pretty easy by making a cart based off of PANIC INCs mock up boxes.
