Mord #2 Posted July 16, 2010 LINK I don't know why they find it so surprising that "hardware sales are up while software sales are down". If more people are shelling out 300+ last month for actual consoles, they probably have 300+ less than normal for actual games. Since just about every console on the market has one or two limited edition packin bundles on the go, it likely means the only new game they'll be playing is the one that came with the console. xg4bx #3 Posted July 16, 2010 the easiest solution is probably the correct one-there simply aren't any games out that are truly worth buying. maybe people are waking up to the fact that "hey, this crap isn't worth paying $60 for". i used to buy a ton of games and even i came to that realization. Video #4 Posted July 16, 2010 It's the middle of the year, there aren't many good games worth plunking down for, and these numbers won't account for the budget titles (either budget releases, or premium titles marked down) That, and people are getting tired of "yet another sequel" No matter how good a game is, it gets old, especially when companies may be releasing it as often as once a year (or even more often ! )
atarian63 #5 Posted July 16, 2010 Manufacturers for years have not released as much in the summer and with the economy I might delay whatever I was going to release for a better time. Heck rock concerts are being delayed due to current conditions and others cancelled. just my opinion.
SoulBlazer #6 Posted July 16, 2010 None of those figures ever take into account USED game sales, either. I can almost promise you in this day and age there are at least three times as much money made in selling used games instead of new games. No wonder the companies want to crack down on used sales. Heck rock concerts are being delayed due to current conditions and others cancelled. just my opinion. How true, but sad! With the superficial kids nowdays who buy most of the games, the most important attribute of **ANY** game is that it's new.....who cares if it's really, really good. "You're still playing that???" So if you don't release it during a peak season, it'll die quickly because nobody wants to play a 6 mos. old game; there's the latest crap you'd rather spend your money on. SpendTooMuchOnAtari #8 Posted July 16, 2010 It's interesting to think of how much you'd save playing games with a six month delay. It would be a better economic decesion but you certainly wouldn't be part of any "hype" on any game. Would I enjoy Red Dead Redemption 5 months from now? Yeah but I still paid in the mid-40s used since I saw it at a friend's house shortly after release. Now, we talk about the game and our trophies and it's good stuff. It's more fun to play during the initial hype, especially when games are online!
Mord #9 Posted July 17, 2010 It's interesting to think of how much you'd save playing games with a six month delay. The problem with that is not every game will be easy to find 6 months after launch - and some of those actually end up doubling in cost in that period... (For the titles that are marketed into the next dimension like Alan Wake or Mass Effect 2, etc, yeah those will be around and likely cheaper. But not all titles are like that!) Well said, well said, I was just going to bring that up myself.. I bet the numbers only factor in new sales.
moycon #11 Posted July 17, 2010 360 hardware sales exploded last in June. Thanks to the redesign sales were up 88% from the previous month. For folks buying a new 360 Slim and experiencing the 360 for the first time I just can't see the advantage of running out buying new releases the likes of Lego Harry Potter, Crackdown 2, or Ninety-Nine Nights 2 and spending another $180 when they know they can snap up earlier released games say... Lego Batman, Crackdown, and 99N for around $30 total.
