DeLorean #1 Posted July 18, 2010 Hey guys. We just created a great new video and I wanted to post it to share with everyone. This is a review of the Nintendo NES Top Loader vs Original oldschool "Toaster" model. This is also a short film about what makes summer so great :] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjrqvlRgKmU We had a lot of fun making this film. It should give you a good taste of what you can expect from us in terms of videos, podcasts, etc. but with Atari-related content. You'll also see me in this this video. Hope you enjoy! Ciao :] DeLorean PS - WARNING: This film contains lots of old games, general cheesiness, and as much summertime as could be crammed into 10 minutes or less. This is all in good fun, so don't take this too seriously. Enjoy! . . . . . . . . . . Anyway thanks again DeLorean I really appreciate it. Hope you are having a great weekend! The_Laird #2 Posted July 18, 2010 (edited) I watched this video on Facebook and thought it was quite insulting. Like the NES ruled the world and if you don't own one then you are not a proper collector or retro gamer which is total rubbish. I hate this misinformed opinion that the NES was king when in the UK, Europe, Australia and South America it was a total non-event. When I was at school if you told somebody you owned an NES they would laugh at you and walk away . . . . Edited July 18, 2010 by The_Laird
Tr3vor #3 Posted July 18, 2010 When I was at school if you told somebody you owned an NES they would laugh at you and walk away . . . . for you european guys at least, here NES is like a video game god. you bring up NES in a conversation "OH YEAH! I remember that old thing. it was fun!"... But I have to tell everyone how to fix the connectors though...

Tr3vor #5 Posted July 18, 2010 Did you just call me a "European Guy" hey, your from europe, that make you european. I'm from america, that makes me american. or if you want to get technical with this ancestory stuff, then I'm dutch and german. or whatever. shouldn't be that big of a problem. The_Laird #6 Posted July 18, 2010 America is a country Europe isn't. I was born in England which is in the UK so that makes me either English or British. Not European
Tr3vor #7 Posted July 18, 2010 (edited) America is a country Europe isn't. I was born in England which is in the UK so that makes me either English or British. Not European oh, I forget who comes from UK and all that, I'm terrible at geography. or you could be european and I'm north american, you know, NES was popular in the whole north america, and the 7800 was popular in all of europe. mbd30 #8 Posted July 18, 2010 The 7800 was actually popular somewhere? Wasn't it the Sega Master System that took off in Europe?
The_Laird #9 Posted July 18, 2010 The 7800 was actually popular somewhere? Wasn't it the Sega Master System that took off in Europe? The Master System ruled as far as consoles were concerned the 7800 did about the same as the NES, the 2600 was very popular right into the early nineties. PsychoKittyNet #10 Posted July 18, 2010 Its rather obvious this is coming from an American pop-culture point of veiw isent it? The NES ruled in North America and Japan but not so much elsewhere. Different cultures have different likes, nothing to get mad about.
fiddlepaddle #11 Posted July 19, 2010 America is a country Europe isn't. I was born in England which is in the UK so that makes me either English or British. Not European Actually, America is a pair of continents, North and South America. North America includes several countries, including Canada, The United States, and Mexico. I have to admit that I don't fully understand the relationship between England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, vs Great Britain, the United Kingdom, and the European Union (which, as I understand it, is what lets the Germans tell the Brits how to count their money). And I think Hong Kong and Australia used to be part of the United Kingdom, but they were never part of Europe, unless you count Pangea. I do know that London is that place where all the BBC science fiction stuff happens at. Europe is a sub-continent, and perhaps a socialist state-of-mind, depending on your point of view. The_Laird #12 Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) Yes but people commonly refer to the USA as simply America. Great Britain is just England, Scotland and Wales (the countries that make up the island of Britain) The UK is Britain, Northern Island and any foriegn territory still under British rule like Gibralter, Pitcairn and Falkland Islands. Australia and Canada among other countries still have the British Queen as a head of state and are classed as Commonwealth. Pretty much anyone who lives in Britian doesn't consider themselves European. We don't use the Euro or enforce half their stupid laws and in fact apart from the EU common market for import/export we share very little with them and have much closer ties with the USA. +wood_jl #13 Posted July 19, 2010 I don't understand either thinking the NES is the center of the universe, and I equally don't understand any backlash against it. It was just a console that had a lot of great games, and like any other popular (at least in U.S. and Japan) console, a whole lot of stinkers too. Obviously the solution is to play the good games and ignore the stinkers, and this isn't very difficult to do. Even if it wasn't available in your area, it still undeniably had a number of innovative, fun games. It's still ok for you to hate it, too, but don't discount the fun games - hate it for some other reason. It's just a console, everybody....please relax. fiddlepaddle #14 Posted July 19, 2010 Thanks; that clears it up a bit. ...The UK is Britain, Northern Island and...Did you mean "Northern Ireland"? My superficial research on Ireland, Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, and Irish Free State was somewhat confusing. Apparently, the country of Northern Ireland is part of the UK, but the Republic of Ireland is instead part of Europe. Just to keep things approximately on topic, were all NES systems released in all the above areas PAL?
SRGilbert #15 Posted July 19, 2010 Guys, aren't you missing the real point here? That being that DeLorean is a real cutie! Too young for me of course. Fun video, too bad Laird got all bent out of shape, not sure what his problem is. I'll always be an Atari/Sega guy first, but you would have to be in denile to not acknowledge the importance of the NES and the NES library on classic gaming history. godslabrat #16 Posted July 19, 2010 Dude, this is THE INTERNET! You HAVE to get insulted and take personally anything you don't totally agree with, or they kick you out. Seriously... in the US, the NES was essentially the only game sysem around between 1987 and 1990, and was VERY significant for several years before and after that period of time. I'd say it's very appropriate to treat it like the be-all, end-all of gaming, because within the context of that particular time and place, it really was. Different years, different countries, different story.
Tr3vor #17 Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) Really, this is the most off topic topic I've ever seen so far, only one post that goes with the op... But I shouldn't complain, that one post wasn't mine... Edited July 19, 2010 by Tr3vor
dendawg #18 Posted July 19, 2010 This was more of an essay than an actual review. Two minutes of actual content + eight minutes of filler = fail.
Tr3vor #19 Posted July 19, 2010 This was more of an essay than an actual review. Two minutes of actual content + eight minutes of filler = fail. I agree. I think that was pretty much all on wikipedia and the rest was basically a montage of random pictures.
godslabrat #20 Posted July 19, 2010 That was FREAKING AWESOME!!! ... of course, it might help that I'm a *huge* fan of The Adventures of Pete & Pete, and loved the references.
famicommander #21 Posted July 19, 2010 Sorry, but I couldn't watch the whole video. It took three minutes for the word "Nintendo" to even be mentioned.

Yes I did mean Nothern Ireland And yes you are correct that Ireland or Eire as they call it is a full EU member and uses the Euro, before the Euro came in though they used pounds and pence the same as the UK. Mattel released the NES in the UK and Europe and it was Pal.

The editing might be a bit questionable, but it's not as random as you might think.
atarilovesyou #25 Posted July 19, 2010 I watched this video on Facebook and thought it was quite insulting. Like the NES ruled the world and if you don't own one then you are not a proper collector or retro gamer which is total rubbish. I hate this misinformed opinion that the NES was king when in the UK, Europe, Australia and South America it was a total non-event. When I was at school if you told somebody you owned an NES they would laugh at you and walk away . . . . Looks like you had a truly disadvantaged gaming youth, EnglandMan! Seriously. NES was the biggest thing since sliced bread, and the only reason it wasn't so in the UK was because it wasn't as easily avaiable. Were it so, you wouldn't be so cranky today. NES did rule the world; the world that was lucky enough to be in on it, namely North America and Japan. I think I would cry having to play the Master System or an Amiga during the heyday of the NES...of course, I would have played the other stuff but the NES was, is and always will be the KING of it's era. You have no argument that can possibly conflict my opinion on this matter. Also, since you missed out on the true beginnings of video game home console domination, you don't have much of a valid opinion on such matters. In my opinion. Of course. Go get an NES, see?
