Purple Label Decathlon?

Hey all,

 

Probably a dumb question, but I came across an Activision Decathlon cart today and it has a purple label? I think I've only ever seen it in blue?

 

Is there a purple variation?

I've seen purple ones before, but always thought they were sun-faded rather than a legit version. Actually I see a lot more Crackpots that turn a purple color as they age, but you get the idea.

ditto Omegamatrix. Sounds like a sun-bleached label to me. I have a pink Crackpots much the same!

I will post a photo. It's the same as the purple label from Dragster. I don't think it's faded at all.

In the second-last picture here http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/164694-macsarcade/ you can see that many of my oldest Activision cart (luckily two exceptions are the Pitfalls... ) have their labels turned into another color than the original...

Kinda' "typical" for Activision's ?

It's faded.

 

They even turn gray if you wait long enough.

Ya, I am aware that the labels on the Activision carts fade but I have seen crap tons of Decathlon carts and never seen any that look like this. Say what you will. I will bring it to CGE along with a standard blue one and the diff is night and day. And it's all one color. So if it's faded it faded evenly on the whole label.

 

My Decath looks exactly like this crackpots except replace the name and screen shot with Act. Decath.

I suppose it could be faded or something, but it looks just like this cart.

They will fade evenly. Here is one I had, and one from Atarimania side by side. Mine had already faded halfway. In a few more years it'll be a light purple.

 

I once had an almost mint Frostbite. I had pulled it out of a sealed box (sorry Iwan). It amazed me how much it changed color and started placquing in just a couple of years. I stuck it in a ziplock bag as soon as I noticed, but it was too late.

I wonder if the glue used on the label has something to do with color fading. When it bleeds through, maybe it chemically combines with the color and fades it. It's sad that you can't preserve things in a perfect state. I guess maybe if you vacuum sealed your collection it would help.

Speaking of glue... I picked up a Scotch brand permanent glue stick the other day for some of my labels that have fallen off. I cleaned the plastics, wiped off the backs of the detached labels, and rubbed the stick on both parts. When I placed the labels back on the carts, they seemed to stick quite nicely. I'm hoping the old hardened glue on the back of the labels created a good barrier to keep the new glue from seeping into the label. We'll see. If it's still holding strong after a few years, I'll be happy.

Glue stick won't soak into the paper and cause "plaque" like the glue Activision originally used.
