fdurso224 #1 Posted July 25, 2010 Hi guys, I now that Atariage is mainly an Atari site (of course) and that we get together discussing systems, games, etc. I love Atari, But I always here that they say that everybody on the forums enjoys Atari. But I now for a fact that there are plenty of gamers here that don't enjoy it or its products, but are here to discuss other consoles, games and other concerns. Are there any members here that are here that are in similar situations like this? Anthony....

If that's the case we'll give them a good old fashioned ass-whoopin.

Chickybaby #4 Posted July 25, 2010 I think many of us enjoy other consoles, but I don't want to see this thread turn into a fight. HAHAHAHAH funny comments. Enjoy the friends, info, all the topics etc. Lots of good stuff for everyone an no need to put stuff down imo, just iggy what you don;t like. Life is too short. I always meant to say everytime I see it (off topic) - love the avatar Jetset.
Pixelboy #5 Posted July 25, 2010 I think many of us enjoy other consoles, but I don't want to see this thread turn into a fight. HAHAHAHAH funny comments. Enjoy the friends, info, all the topics etc. Lots of good stuff for everyone an no need to put stuff down imo, just iggy what you don;t like. Life is too short. I could be wrong, but I think fdurso224's question was more about general interest in all things Atari. I for one like the Atari 2600 very much, and while I never had the opportunity to try the 5200 and 7800, I'm sure I'd like them too. However, I have absolutely no interest in Atari computers. During that era of home computers, I was more drawn to the ADAM, the Coco2 and the Commodore 64. No interest in the Jaguar or the Lynx either. I come here because there are lots of ColecoVision fans, but most people here know that already.
+save2600 #6 Posted July 25, 2010 I'd say this is a fairly well rounded forum gaming wise. Good mix of modern and classic conversation going on. About members not enjoying all things Atari though... I've got to admit I'm not a big fan of the Lynx at all. Strange selection of games and a horrible screen IMO, just too bad nobody's bothered to create a home console that'll play Lynx games. Who knows, might end up with a postage stamp sized screen on a television playing it though. I remember this adapter doo-dad that sold for $250+ at one time (maybe Best Electronics still has 'em?)... does anyone actually own that though? Anyway, a dedicated console to play Lynx on the television with a nice controller would be pretty cool. I also remember some word about the Jaguar having a Lynx capable adapter, or maybe I dreamed that back in the day? lmao I've always wanted to play Elvira pinball on a non-blurry and non-washed out screen. Atari 8-bit computing also is something I'd be more into if it wasn't for Commodore products, but as it is, I'm comfortable not maintaining any A8 stuff Same with the 5200. Jaguar is a good, if not quirky system and conversation piece though. Neat system to have in a collection. And most of the games I have for it, I REALLY like so the Jaguar fits alongside nicely with my 2600 & 7800 systems. To say there are *any* regular members here not into anything Atari would be improbable.
fdurso224 #7 Posted July 25, 2010 Hi guys, I was never to hot growing up with the Atari systems as a child, however it quickly change once I got older thanks to the Atari Jaguar.. I was interested on more of the NES and Neo-Geo subjects and in the general forums to discuss anything like Pro-Wrestling, Baseball, etc. Anthony.... Reaperman #8 Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) I'll bite on this one. I really do like this forum, but I'm not too much of an Atari guy. I really like the atari 8-bit computers. They were well-built, powerful beasts, and in my opinion they are still the best way to experience the games from a certain era. Extremely wide variety of titles, it does all of what the early consoles do (only better). I also grew up with them, so I have a bit of an attachment from that. That's about where I stop being an atari fan. While I own all the commonly released atari consoles, I don't really care too much for them. I don't have a great reason why, except that they just don't resonate with me and feel awfully limited compared to A8. Then there are the jag/lynx games--they appeal to me only on very rare occasions. I also don't care much for the more cheaply built of the atari computers (budget and late model a8's, and most of the st's). These 'bargain boxes' weren't built to be the best they could be and it tended to show. But I'm here for the same reason almost everybody is probably here--I kept googling video game stuff, and this forum consistently came up near the top of the search with whatever I was looking for. +H.E.R.O. #9 Posted July 25, 2010 I love Atari but no more or less than I love Coleco, Sega, Commodore, arcade games etc. I'm just a lover of videogames from my first Atari 2600 game to my last Xbox 360 game and everything in between.
fdurso224 #10 Posted July 25, 2010 Hi guys, I came to Atariage because I heard about it in college in late 2004. I unfortunately didn't pay attention because I thought it was just another forum site like the others. Thank goodness it wasn't. Anthony....
desiv #11 Posted July 25, 2010 ... But I now for a fact that there are plenty of gamers here that don't enjoy it or its products, but are here to discuss other consoles, games and other concerns.... I'd disagree with that.. While there are "plenty of gamers that are here to discuss other consoles, games and other concerns," that doesn't mean that they don't enjoy Atari or it's products.. I'd say that it's much more likely that they all do enjoy at least some of those products, even if it's just some of the Atari Arcade games (which is one of the things that brought me to this forum). Personally, I never owned an Atari product until my 7800 which I got 7 or so years ago... But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it or it's products.. I LOVE Atari coin-ops.. I wanted a 2600, but we got an O2 (which I enjoyed). I wanted an Apple II, and then I really wanted an Atari 800... But my gateway drug into computers was the Vic-20 and I was hooked on CBM for years.. Which I enjoyed and still like. But I also like the Atari line of computers and always have.. As a Vic-20, C64 and SX-64 owner, I NEVER hated on Atari 8-bits... I still thought they were awesome... As an Amiga owner, I admit there were anti-ST discussions.. :-) I think it was a federal law or something.. But I secretly thought that the ST was pretty good.. :-) I would be much more willing to believe that there are LOTS of people on this forum who might not own Atari's and are here for other things, but that they still appreciate Atari, as do I... (Well, I do own a 7800 now (and an ST)). desiv
fdurso224 #12 Posted July 25, 2010 Hi guys, I use to remember my sister was a big Colecovision and NES fan. She was the classic fan loyally person even if the game was made on the CV by Atari, she wouldn't touch it. I know a few that are big Intellivision buffs that didn't particularly care for any of its products. Some people just don't like certain brands (like saying I only like Chevrolet and Chevrolet only). I remember when the 16-bit wars came about, I hated the Sega Genesis! The people, the systems, the games, the logo, the whole 9-yards. The fan loyally to Nintendo (for me) was so huge at the time, that I was to believe anything that was superior to Nintendo, was considered surprisingly egregious. Man those bring back memories. Anthony....
4Ks #13 Posted July 25, 2010 I like Atari a lot, but if there's one system I really don't care for at all it's Jaguar. It just screams "desperation cry", and very many of its games seem poorly made.
Video #14 Posted July 25, 2010 I doubt many people here don't like something Atari. After all, it's Atari age, not Classic console Age (or something else) Almost everyone that is here, came here because they were looking for one of their favorite old atari consoles, or some game. Maybe it was the 7800, or they lynx instead of the 2600, but most are here because of Atari. Now there are probably afew people that are here cause a friend talked them into coming here....and there are forums for other stuff and evven modern consoles, so there's something for anyone that likes games. And technically, if you do a google for some games, it can link this site, even if that specific game has nothing to do with atari.
OldSchoolRetroGamer #15 Posted July 25, 2010 I am a fan mostly. Atari 2600/7800, I plan to get a 5200, XEGS etc so I guess the consoles. I have to let the cat out of the bag though, not really a fan of the computer line. I came here to learn more about the computer line and most definitely have, picked up an atari 800xl. 520st, 1040stf, but I have not been thrilled with the computers. Now let me say I certainly am no fanboy since I am a collector BUT I did grow up a "Commodore kid" with the C64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 so I was really looking forward to experiencing the Atari computer line and I tried not to be bias because of my Commodore past but, and PLEASE keep in mind programming and music were never interests of mine with computers, the more I learn and experience and try to be fair comparing the Atari computers the less impressed I am with them. I guess my main interest were games playing, art, animation and video titling/editing and in my opinion the Amiga blow away the ATARI in these areas. Again I stress I am not looking to start a war, and I really gave it a go, i am still a collector but I have to say for me personally I have no regrets having made the Commodore choices growing up and if I was to live it all over again I would do the same, so yeah that is my long way of saying I don't like the Atari computers but I love the games/consoles etc.
fdurso224 #16 Posted July 25, 2010 Hi guys, My brother (Spartanclone001) and CJ Strom enjoys just the "Modern Gaming" sections. CGQuarterly #17 Posted July 25, 2010 I'll bite on this one. I really do like this forum, but I'm not too much of an Atari guy. This is pretty much how I feel as well. I come here for the people, and the good mature (usually) conversation. I have an Atari 2600, and I periodically review 2600 games for my website, but if I am being honest it probably gets the least amount of play time out of all of my consoles. It isn't that I don't like it - it was just a little bit before my time. I knew people who had Atari 2600's growing up, and in fact my best friend had a 5200, but my first console was the NES, which I got in 1987 when I was 10 years old. So my gaming memories outside of the arcade really start with that console. So I like the Atari, and some of the homebrew games that have come out for it have been really amazing, but it doesn't hold that special place for me that it does for a lot of other people around here. I should say that I did have a Lynx towards the end of it's life cycle, and still have it. Because I had it in its day, that particularly unloved console is a little bit special to me. I certainly like it more than the Game Gear. Chris
jeremysart #18 Posted July 26, 2010 Interesting topic. I grew up on the VCS 2600, it was the first console we owned. Beyond the 2600, I am not a huge Atari fan really. I mean I have owned a 7800 and a 400 computer since I was 10, but they werent anything that I spent too much time on. For me it was 2600>INTV>CV>NES>SNES growing up. I found these forums because I was searching for information on the aracde Mario Bros., and at the top of google I seen "Colecovision Mario Bros" and I had to check it out. I decided to stay because these forums arent filled with kids, so theres not a lot of trolling, flmaing, or obsurd language. Conversations are usually pretty enjoyable, everyone here seems more like a real community, or even a family compared to any other forums I have been on. All in all, I would say the people are the #1 reason I come here, followed by discussing classic games, homebrew, and up coming games. Oh, and OldSchoolRetroGamer, WHERE did you get your new avatar? I love it! I kind of want to make a painting like that now! I have been wanting create some women inspire painting, but I never thought of sexy Tron girls on light cycles
fdurso224 #19 Posted July 26, 2010 Hi guys, The people who are on this site are very intelligent and have very intellectual conversations. The moderaters and the Administrator are kind and straight-forward. They're very stern when it comes to poor manners & for those who are unjust to others. They're unbelievably knowledgeable, and the members here sometimes help others by donating products through the mail for free. What a wonderful & considerate thing to do! Compared to many sites, this is the most "Well organised, Remarkably Intelligent Mature Group Members Club, and All-around entertaining website to be on!! I'm overjoyed with my great decision to be a member/subscriber here. Anthony.....
Sonic R #20 Posted July 26, 2010 I was never into the old Atari consoles in my youth… my sister had a 7800 - which is now in my ownership and I played it in limited spurts. I was introduced to video games with the NES which I had got in 1987 at the age of 11. today I'll play some of the games we had on the 7800 for quick spurts, but they don't hold my interest. I came across this site last year as I picked up an Atari Lynx at a flea market and was interested to know more about it and it's games. I had always wanted a Lynx when I was in middle school, but they were difficult to come across and I was more into console games of the time… but my true love for Atari lies with the Jaguar… I had the console at launch and held onto it for a couple years before selling it off, but had great moments and memories of playing games such as Cybermorph, Trevor McFur, Cannon Fodder, and Tempest 2000… in 2002 I picked up another Jaguar at the flea market with Tempest 2000 for $20 and still have it today. I play it quite often and am expanding my library of Jaguar games. Jaguar is a console of unique taste and I enjoy it more now than I did in my first ownership of it! Atari consoles of the 80s were before my time so I hold little interest in them but Jaguar (and Lynx to a lesser degree) were at the height of my gaming youth and those hardware symbolize Atari for me and my Atari passion lies with the cats! as for these forums, I enjoy it much, and have had the pleasure to gather with local members for gaming fellowship. I also enjoy the high score competitions.
fiddlepaddle #21 Posted July 26, 2010 I like a good game on almost ANY system, but have little interest in the computers mostly because I have no patience with cassettes and floppies anymore (though I used to suffer through it). I like Atari game consoles mostly because they were so popular, and collecting them is just so darn fun: all the weird add-ons, the modern mods, the lame, the esoteric, and the pure genius that came through when so many resources were focused on the system in it's heyday. I also enjoy the more obscure systems as well, they each have their own stories to tell. The reason I prefer this web site to others of a similar nature is primarily because the comments and opinions are generally more mature and intelligent, yet we still get a surprising variety of people, from the wide-eyed innocent to the curmudgeonly cynical. fdurso224 #22 Posted August 1, 2010 Hi guys, At one point, I got tired of playing games from Atari in the mid-late 90's for a while. They had San Francisco Rush, but that's about it. Alot of Atari games I felt in the Arcades were real let downs!! They started to do the whole Midway stuff with repetitive actions, cheap to little one liners, and characters that do almost the same movements. I felt the creatively on extra detailing slack big time for Atari Games & Midway. Anthony....
