Tyrant #1 Posted July 25, 2010 While sorting through my Jag stuff today, getting ready to move house, I came across my Pro Controller, and it occurs to me that most of the time I don't use it. I've got quite a lot of Jaguar pads kicking around, and most of the time when I want to play something, I just grab the nearest one, usually then realise it's a Rotary and grab another one for normal games, but my Pro tends to stay in hidden away most of the time. This got me wondering about how many people use Pro Controllers, and how many prefer the original (or have no preference). Personally I do like the Pro's D-Pad, but find the buttons less pleasant to use than the original controller. Also, how many games actually support the extra buttons (i.e. they do useful functions, rather than just arbitrary stuff), and are there any games for which a Pro Controller is a major boon. Do any of the fighting games make proper use of it?
Gregory DG #2 Posted July 25, 2010 I only use my ProController. It feels less "stiff" than the standard Jag controller. Plus I like the buttons better.
The_Laird #3 Posted July 25, 2010 I can't go without my Pro, I far prefer it. Its just far nicer to hold. Total Carnage is unplayable without it.
ls650 #4 Posted July 25, 2010 While I like the regular pads and can't understand all the criticism they've garnered over the years, I prefer the Pro Controllers: they have slightly nicer feel to the D-pads and buttons, and are a bit thinner and nicer to hold. Tyrant #5 Posted July 25, 2010 Is it just about the feel for you guys (I agree re: the D-pad, much nicer) or do you find yourself using the extra buttons much?
Major Havoc 2049 #6 Posted July 25, 2010 The d-pad on the pro is way better than the original. As soon as I got two pro controllers, my regular jag pads have been in storage ever since. There are also plenty of games that support the extra buttons.

There are also plenty of games that support the extra buttons. I really like the Pro, it's the pad I use regulary when I play. It's a bit flatter than the original one and feels better and quite a lot of games make use of it. Some even as if it was designed for it even if it wasn't. Like AvP where you can comfortably strafe and access the map with the xyz buttons. And also the Iron Soldier games take advantage for selecting weapons. I just wish that Atari would have released the Jag with this controller instead of the original one. I like the keypad and overlays but for proper gameplay a six button controller is better so they should have gone with that.
busterm #8 Posted July 25, 2010 Ive not used a regular controller in years. Pro controllers all the way and the price is worth it. Though i did pick up a rotary but the dpad is a fire button on that one, so i dont think it counts =P

+remowilliams #12 Posted July 26, 2010 I always use the pro, I prefer it quite a bit over the stock controllers.
ovalbugmann #13 Posted July 26, 2010 There a sale thread/pictures about it over at JS2, it's a tripped out rotary, made by a JS2er. Basically he switched the buttons & rotary sides so you could use the rotary with your right & hand fire with your left, rather than turn the controller upside down to do the same with a regular style rotary. It has a custom button "pad", sceme, I think, where you have to press down to jump or use the superzapper.

Yeap, you mash the dpad as a fire button. and push up and down like a rocker to activate jump and superzapper.. Works wonders and it came in custom colors. Mine is yellow I think there is also a black and red one also. Its called T2K Commander, mine is the Hornet version. Danny_galaga is the creator. +Stephen Moss #15 Posted July 26, 2010 I occasionally use my pro controller when playing NBA Jam as the turbo function is a bit of a sod to reach otherwise, and if I need a fourth controller for Worms. Other than NBA Jam I personally don't have any games where I find the extra buttons to be of much use, plus as I can't have my jag out permamantly I tent to just use the ones packed with it when I do get the Jag out. ovalbugmann #16 Posted July 26, 2010 Thanks Busterm -I just sent Danny a PM to request to buy the "Dark Knight"(black) T2K Commander. I like the idea of a spinner in the right hand as the original T2K cabinets had.
+TrekMD #17 Posted July 26, 2010 I more frequently used my pro controller than the standard controller. I like how the feel of the buttons better.
PeterG #18 Posted July 26, 2010 There is a new rotary out there which is exactly like he described it... Who would do such a thing? and why? Seems as he wanted to have the rotary on the right side and the modified button in place of the digipad incorporates all three actions. Fire when pressing the center, jumping when pushing up and zapper when down ( or the other way round. Don't know) Looks like a nice pad to me but I am still without a rotary to this day since they always seem a bit to expensive for me. Maybe one day... thund3r #21 Posted July 27, 2010 How much are these beasts now a days? They felt 100x better than the standard controllers, and it generally meant i could play Jag for longer due to my left thumb not cramping up from a crappy dpad.
The_Laird #22 Posted July 27, 2010 (edited) I got a new one a few months back from a french store called Moreoshop (I think thats right) because they were doing a 25% off sale and I snagged it for under £35 including shipping Edited July 27, 2010 by The_Laird
prodigal-son #23 Posted July 27, 2010 Does anyone have a pro controller they would like to sell? I need to get one.
Zerosquare #24 Posted July 27, 2010 Moeroshop has been known to sell used stuff as new, and there have been several reports of poort customer service. Beware.
+Sauron #25 Posted August 11, 2010 Late to the party again, but might as well chip in. I've been using my ProController exclusively ever since I first purchased it a number of years back. It's superior in every way to the original Jagpad, with a much sturdier build, more solid and easier to press buttons, and a superior d-pad. If they weren't so expensive I would stock up on a few more just to have as backups.
