STICH666 #1 Posted July 27, 2010 I'm going to get a bare console tomorrow for $25 and I needed to know what are the most common problems with Jaguars? I already have a working controller, power supply and rf switch so those can be dismissed if those have any faults.
Zerosquare #2 Posted July 27, 2010 Most common issues I've seen : - internal voltage regulators blown because someone mistakenly used the power supply from another console. Fixable, but you need to be able to solder small parts. - bad contacts on the cartridge port. Sometime they just need a good cleaning, but they may also be bent. ovalbugmann #3 Posted July 27, 2010 (edited) Yes look at your cart port pins and make sure they are all lined up straight and there's nothing in there. Use an official Jaguar PS if possible. I do have a Radio Shack PS that has the exact same specs as the official Atari ones. 9V-DC, 1200mA/1.2A, & positive center plug polarity(very important) Remember the light won't come on unless a cart is inserted. Get a soft cloth and slightly dampen it with water a little and clean it up good, all surfaces. Enjoy! Edited July 27, 2010 by ovalbugmann
STICH666 #4 Posted July 28, 2010 Guy never showed up and he's not responding to my emails. Too bad. Could have gotten a Jaguar for a hell of a lot less than they're going for on ebay. Thanks guys. I'll keep that in mind for next time.
STICH666 #5 Posted July 28, 2010 Does this look fair or should I skip it? eBay Auction -- Item Number: 280539914751
ovalbugmann #6 Posted July 28, 2010 Yes!, that's a good deal, I would pick it up. Then you will just need a PS & controller & AV cable.
Zerosquare #7 Posted July 28, 2010 The auction says that it was bought in a garage sale and not tested. You should know that some used Jags, especially the ones sold for cheap, have one of the faults mentioned above. It's up to you to decide if you want to take the risk of buying a potentially non-working console. Do you have the skills and motivation to fix it if it's the case (or lose $35 + shipping) ? STICH666 #8 Posted July 28, 2010 Yeah I decided against it. If anybody has a working loose Jag for around $50, I'm interested
Thorsten Günther #9 Posted August 3, 2010 In your case, I'd rather watch lots (containing the games and controllers and preferrably a composite or S-video cable) on eBay - usually these are cheaper than buying single items. Thorsten
