"Starter" RPGs for veteran gamer

What does everyone think of DS Puzzle Quest? (not Galactrix)

 

I loved it. It's a barebones RPG, but all battles involve working on a Bejeweled-style puzzle to whittle down your opponents' hit points. There's plenty of other stuff to do (forge weapons, train mounts, capture enemies, learn spells, etc), but it's not overburdening. It's highly addictive, and good for about 40 - 80 hours depending on your comfort with puzzle games.

Well in PQ Im a lvl 12 knight w/ high morale & battle(?) & skilled in "Water", whatever that means. Im riding a lvl 6 trained large rat. I tried fighting Dugog a few fights a go & got my ass kicked. Too early I guess?

 

Oh yeah I just forged a fire dagger.

 

I didnt get the manual w/ it, & Im starting to feel like I should be doing something other thatn roaming around picking fights.

 

Got any advice?
