Videogamecollector123 #1 Posted August 4, 2010 I have a broken SNES ac adapter which used to work only when I tilted it the right way, now it won't power on at all. So I've been using this new power adapter but I think the new one is causing my SNES to show green lines on the screen on a couple games due to it's low voltage. Anyway what is the procedure to fix these?
nathanallan #2 Posted August 4, 2010 The SNES power supply, sadly, is a low quality piece of dung like most power supplies. What I do is get the correct tip and then head to ebay for a generic laptop power supply, usually pretty cheap ~$9, mod it with the new tip and it powers it forever. Don't go above 12V, stay around 2.0A. The laptop supplies are better quality and meant to carry a larger load, the SNES doesn't even let them get warm. I did this a few times for people. I made one for myself for a Genesis and a Sega CD, the power supply is rated at 4.0A and the thing doesn't even get warm when I run them both. Yes, the green lines are because of too little current. Sorry for the bad news, but those things suck. I prefer to make my own.
Videogamecollector123 #3 Posted August 4, 2010 K thanks for the advice, I'll probably go that route.
gdement #4 Posted August 5, 2010 A regulated supply from a laptop like nathanallan mentioned is probably ideal. But if you happen to have an extra Genesis model-2 supply, you can also use that. Just transfer the tip from your old SNES supply, and make sure you get the polarity correct. That was how I fixed mine.
