S1500 #1 Posted August 6, 2010 I haven't torrented all the Davison episodes yet, but I swear there was a lot of Atari 8-bit usage(text screens, mainly) to make computer screens and such. I recognized the font. Am I rite, no? I just discovered this in one of the episodes. A choppy grab of Galaga, with TI-99/4A-like sound effects dubbed in. Rybags #2 Posted August 6, 2010 There's no Galaga on the A8 though. And the fonts used by most 8-bit computers were all similar - you tended to have the 2-pixel thick ones used by ones with 320h modes like the A8, C64 and BBC and single pixel ones used by 256h modes like the TRS-80 CoCo. spookt #3 Posted August 6, 2010 The BBC Micro was used later on IIRC. Unsurprising I suppose.
jaybird3rd #4 Posted August 6, 2010 They used real computers on classic Doctor Who? The ones I can remember were always made out of blinking lights, tin foil, and modeling clay. And aren't those wicker lawn chairs that they're sitting on? (I'm just kidding! My Dad was a fan of the show, so I grew up watching Doctor Who before it was very popular here in the States, and I enjoy it despite the no-budget special effects). sloopy #6 Posted August 6, 2010 i always thought it interesting the way computers back then in the 60's and 70's were always portrayed as large behemoths in the future, and not as small little things... even when you go into the 80's and 90's when computers were obviously gonna shrink in size, but grow exponentially in power, they still are a size where we have realized now (i.e. ST:NG the pads they use for lists of work etc, virtually identical to iPads etc) and not something new or revolutionary. i would venture to guess that by the time the 24th century arrives, computers wont be recognizable as they are today, i would even go so far as the human/digital interface would have been figured out, and the need for hand held devices wouldnt be neccessary... i am just waiting to have my 6502 installed in my brain/body, preferably one made into an ASIC with a faster then 14Mhz clock :') sloopy. That's what made the show so great. Soap bubbles for a fungus, cheap costumes, and The Doctor ad-libbing whenever he wanted to.
