sandmountainslim #1 Posted August 7, 2010 Why does Homerun get such bad reviews?? It is a nice fun game in my opinion and I loved it back in the early eighties and would play it all the time. I just fired it up on Stella and played the thing for half an hour and it is STILL a great little game. I don't even like sports titles but Atari Homerun and Bowling generally amuse me. Anyone else got love for this early title? Wp
roadrunner #3 Posted August 7, 2010 I also like it.
KevinMos3 #4 Posted August 7, 2010 Me too. I used to love playing it with my cousins. Simple and fun.
chrisbid #5 Posted August 11, 2010 i pretty much like all the simplified 2600 sports games. basketball, football, and homerun are more than playable/arcade style games. activision ice hockey and tennis are great as well. the games were fast and smooth. ComputerSpaceFan #6 Posted August 11, 2010 I have a bad history with Home Run and as such I avoid it when I see it. Maybe I should fire up the old game and judge it with an open mind. My history? Home Run was the first cartridge I saved up my allowance to buy myself and at $40 in 1979 dollars that was a lot of allowance money I had to save. I bought the game purely on the cover art, thinking "this is going to be as awesome as Space Invaders". I was in for a major disappointment. Home Run was the cartridge that taught me to try before you buy or at least seek out reviews first.
Keatah #7 Posted August 13, 2010 This game always had an aire of sophistication and complexity to me. It was great fun from time to time. Especially when I had "permission" to play it, permission because we could make the game last forever and take hours doing re-matches and whatnot.. SoulBlazer #8 Posted August 13, 2010 I didn't have this game as a kid, but I've played it since -- and I love sports and sports games, so I've played just about everything made over the years. How anyone can like this is beyond me. It's the WORST sports game I've played, hands down. Even if you enjoy simple more aracde and less sim games, it's still terible. I could list a hundred things that are wrong with it, but most of the reviews and comments that have been made over the years have touched on all of it. Compare Home Run to Real Sports Baseball and there's just no contest. To be fair, a lot of sports games that were released with a console or as part of the 'first wave' of games were pretty bad.
