Miss 2600 #1 Posted August 12, 2010 I'm visiting my parents in northern California and brought out all my Atari stuff. I was planning on packing up everything and sending them in the mail to me, but now that I realize the task ahead of me, I'm having some second thoughts. I would like to have these games with my so I can participate in the high score contests. I'd never win, but it would be nice to participate. It would be five boxes for the cartridges (I'll leave the boxes), consoles, and all the plug ins which I guess doesn't seem like a whole lot, but it's a lot to drag to a post office. Here's the loose cartridges and the consoles. The four-switch one is the one I had when I was a kid. The six switch one I bought in a thrift store years ago. The slot where you put the cartridge on the six switch is pushed in more than the other. I'm not sure if that is the way they were made or someone jammed a cartridge in it too hard. It seems to work OK.
fiddlepaddle #2 Posted August 12, 2010 I say take one and leave one. Go to the San Jose or Oakland flea market and find some doubles. That way you can still play when you go back to visit. You'll also have a console to test parts and carts you pick up each time you go back. Atari stuff is probably easier to find in the bay area than most anywhere else in the country. Or... if you were visiting parents, ... did you go by plane and cannot take all that with you?? I hope you have your Atari gear sent or whatnot... it would be great if you could join the Atari 2600 High score club. Never seen any girl gamer yet in that competition... so if you beat us boys you could say, oh you lost to a girl. littl' playground humor. PS, Have you visted the High score clubs here, and what do you think?? We just had a playing and a first "Art" contest for Solaris. I probably finished much lower in that art one! +Random Terrain #5 Posted August 12, 2010 I got a vision from the future: Albert will confuse these cartridges with donor carts and strip them down for homebrews. Miss 2600 will get Albert drunk and shave head while he's sleeping, then draw a perfect portrait of Bea Arthur using a permanent marker. Albert will strike back by continuing to shave his head except for one area where it will look like Bea Arthur as a full beard.

I'm not sure if that is the way they were made or someone jammed a cartridge in it too hard. It seems to work OK. Hi! The 4 and 6 switch units were made that way. The position of the mainboard (parallel to the base with a seperate board for the switches) in a 6 switch unit means that the connector is deeper/further away from the cart slot. In the 4 switch unit the mainboard is angled up (the switches, chips and cart connector are on a single board) so the connector is closer to the cart slot. It's just one of the diffs between the 2 units. By he way, I love your collection.
Miss 2600 #8 Posted August 13, 2010 Anyway, you need that Atari stuff shipped to you? Or... if you were visiting parents, ... did you go by plane and cannot take all that with you?? I thought about doing that but I'm traveling alone and think the extra baggage would be a real pain. I'm probably going to mail them to me.

If you do join, you will find yourself getting the best scores of your life... at least that happends with me... Iv'e rolled at least 3 scores in 3 different games the last 2600 HSC season. Deadly Duck, Beany Bopper, Gangster Alley. The competition is tough but normally if you try very hard, you won't finish last. I never got last place, yet anyway. Rik #22 Posted August 25, 2010 I remember taking a plane to go visit my sister back in 82.I took my games with me in one of those vinyl red velvet lined black carrying cases that held 12 of my fave games. The guy at the security gate opened the box and looked at me suspiciously even then!He asked me what they were, "they're what they are" i said, video games. He said okay, and let me pass through.I brought them on the plane with me of course. Can one still bring video game carts on a plane?, with all the security paranoia going on nowadays?, which is totally understandable.I haven't taken a plane in 20 years. It would be ideal and more convenient to just take like 20 or so of your favorite games and a 2600 jr. with you on the plane. Miss 2600 #23 Posted August 25, 2010 I take my Nintendo DS on the plane. I don't think there would be any problem taking Atari stuff on the plane. Those x-ray machines wouldn't affect the cartridges, right? They don't harm DS cartridges anyway. I think I remember taking a couple of cartridges on the plane after CGE 2002 with no problems. That's another thing, X-Ray.I was told back then to not let cameras and video game cartridges through the airport X-rays, as this could damage them.I took no chances, true or not i dunno.I do know i saw a lot of folks refusing to let their cameras through the x-rays.
