Ghostbusters - What was that all about???

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I havn't been here in AGES, but im glad i came back.

I bought Ghostbusters for my Atari 2600 all those years ago. But can anyone explain EXACTLY what you are supposed to do?

I mean, to actually start the game, you had to flick the difficulty switch at the back. That probably took me hours to figure out.

Secondly, catching slimer every now and then (as frustratingly stupid as that is) seems to give you money i think it was. But eventually, some giant monster comes and stamps the city. I just dont get it...

ALSO, i bought that game because the pictures at the back of the case were so damn kool. Who woulda thunk that those screenshots came from the amiga version....Not a very nice thing to do to an 8 yr old kid. I dont think i could ever forgive them for doing that to me, i still havent gotten over the dissapaointment! :x

As far as i can tell, the only kool thing about that game was the tune.

Anyway, Id like to hear your opinions on this matter.

Adios!

The screenshot thing is lame, but the game is pretty darn cool (although there are some sneaky ways to rack up mega points). I really enjoy Ghostbusters. I hope you grow to as well.

I could never get into the 2600 version. It seemed so watered down after beating the Commodore 64 version.... One of the first home games to feature sound.

I love 2600 Ghosbusters... even the randomness that is catching the slimer. I played it almost non stop for a while when I was younger, and I tried to get as high a score as possible a couple months ago with a 4 hour marathon (Yes... to me 4 hours is a marathon gaming session :-))

I like the sound to, even if it did get annoying after a while.

Funny. With my little kids running around the house, sometimes randomly running in front of the TV and/or turning the Atari off, 15 Minutes is a gaming marathon to me! :) Maybe that's why I like Activision's Dragster so much. The game is over in less than 7 seconds!

It WAS?!?! Wow, I thought games as old as PONG had sound! :D I think you meant "voice."

man i loved 2600 ghostbusters. i had c64 ghostbusters too, and sure 2600 ghostbuters wasn't as pretty, but it still had all the gameplay elements, and I felt it played better. I was actually able to win it too, which made it much more enjoyable. Being able to get under the marshmellow man on the c64 is insanely hard, but on the 2600 it is at least doable with practice.

I still think that the Sega Master system version of Ghostbusters was the best. Man, I used to spend HOURS on that one, followed by the 2600. The Genesis version sucked big time.

C=64 Ghostbusters was fantastic! The speech was a great addition. But

being that the commodore days were ones of game pirating I never

got the instructions. It was around 1987 when I met a kid who had

an original copy and he told me that you had to press the "b" button

to use the ghost bait to lure the marshmellow man!! Then I learned

that jumping through his legs was super hard. Only beat the game once.

Too bad the licensing on the title got out of hand and it was left off.

Its not like Ghostbusters is a marquee name in film anymore...
