Videogamecollector123 #1 Posted August 25, 2010 Hi, I just bought a broken Atari 2600 and the problem is that the up on the left joystick doesn't work. I've opened it up and saw that the pin on the back of the port is loose from the pin the controller would go into. Is there anyway to put this back reliably or do I need a new port. Also on the subject of repairs, I have another Atari where the reset and select switches are both broken, any way to fix them or are new parts needed? On the subject of repairing switches, search the forums. I think I may have even done a thread on how to do it. As for the joystick port, I don't know on that. zylon #3 Posted August 25, 2010 I've gotten lucky with filling the hole in back with solder and pushing the broken piece back in but it's not real reliable. Best solution is to replace the port. Switches are an easy fix.
Videogamecollector123 #4 Posted August 25, 2010 Ok well I managed to get the joystick port working with solder and tape, I'll probably replace with with a new input later. Now, how do I open the reset and select switches?
BigO #5 Posted August 26, 2010 Switches are a lot easier to replace than to repair. I've reworked a couple that were corroded and difficult to slide. I had to remove them, disassemble them, sand and file the inside, scrub up the contacts and lubricate and reassemble. They work okay, but unless you're exceptionally cheap like me, I'd recommend replacing them.
