Question: Method of displaying loose 2600 carts

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a preferred way of displaying loose 2600 carts? Is there some display case you can buy in a store these days that just happens to find a large number of loose carts?

I have some open space and currently have my carts stacked up in high stacks, but I am afraid that I am damaging them each time I pull them out, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Y, the music mates work quite well. I have 8 of them, but too many carts. The other thing I use is shown in this picture:

I have two of them and they hold approximately 30 carts plus a systems and controllers.

I have one of these too. IMO they are great for storage. But the only way to access the games is to remove the Atari from the top. It does not have drawers.

I display the majority of my carts on CD racks. Basically the cheap 3 dowel rod versions. They sit very nicely on racks and are displayed at a nice angle. It works for me. I'm trying to get my game room ready for pictures to post. Only one more step left. Got some Donkey Kong graphics for the walls for Christmas last year I haven't done. Once they're up, I'll get pictures up on the game room forum. :D

I looked forever, until I finally gave in and made my own.

Shoot me directions! LOL

I'd still love to make these.

I keep fogetting. I've owed you those for like a year now. I will send them... this is my solemn vow! icon_mrgreen.gif

If you do go with cart holders that were on the market back in the day, make sure you have a complete bottom to the shelf. Slots work nice until you try to put in an M-Network cart. Or forget it if you are just stacking.

Red 5, I'd love to see your plans for those racks too. Looks pretty easy to build & use.

As for the MusicMate things, maybe they aren't all made exactly the same. Different production runs perhaps? I found some at a local used game store, tried sticking a random 2600 cart in there, and it would NOT fit. More than label-scraping tightness, the plastic was simply too large for the holder.

Cool. Simple and elegant. I love how you can remove some dividers and display a cart face-out. Did you do the grooves on a radial-arm saw? It would be easy to use the same design and adapt it to any type of cart; nice work? Morgan

That's good to know. Was it a particular manufacturer's cart or any and all? I use Music Mates for the M Network carts since they don't fit in tubs.

You sure it was a Music Mate and not just something similar?

Well, they weren't labeled or marked in any way (other than price stickers), but they certainly looked and interlocked just like the ones posted here.

Actually, I just went back to that store & they were indeed MusicMates. I looked in the storage area & there are these "fins" running along the bottom of each that must be what's keeping those carts from fitting properly. Were these non-standard music mates?
