My Atari progress

Recommended Posts

As a bit of background on me, I got my first St when I was circa 8, by 14ish I had bought (out of pocket money) several spare machines and was in the process of building a 4 meg STE which I ran until my exit from the ST scene.

I made some fantastic contacts during my time including some guys who I suspect in hindsight were behind Pompey Pirates. About this time I realised there were a lot of machines starting to go faulty with very simple problems, the common ones being floppy drives failing and the odd PSU fault.

I started selling games and refurbed machines as well as any spares people needed to repair the machines themselves.

Fast forward about 5 years and the ST scene was dying, I was needing a machine to use for Uni work so I made the terrible move to a PC, then stupidly sold all my machines and software on a then developing ebay (for next to nothing).

I saw the light a few years ago and moved across to a mac, about the closest thing to a modern usable ST that exists, but still missed STs.

A month or so ago I started buying up any STs I could find locally or very cheap and have pretty much started where I left off, all I was aiming to achieve was a nice machine for myself, with about 10 games I loved back in the day. Of course I soon realised I needed 2 machines one STE with a meg or so and an STfm for 1 game (more on this later) so I started restoring machines to end up with a nice pair. Done that now!

So while sadly it won't be of much use to most of you guys as there is a big lump of water between us if anyone over this side of the pond needs any help with bits let me know, it's no business as lets be honest you couldn't sell ST bits for enough money to be worth running a business but if it keeps breaker machines coming in then it all helps!

Now for a bit of help!

I am hunting a game called Plutos, it was a basic shoot-emup very similar too xenon. I have tried downloading a disk image without much success.

Has anyone got it sat at the bottom of a disk box? If so I would dearly love it!!

Help! Please!

Good to be back living and breating a little Atari, right? :)

I remember having an original Plutos disc. it is more than likely not working after all these years. but i have several compilations and can try searching.

though, they would be roughly the same you can find online...

Good game, Plutos. had lots of fun with it... :)

Played a little Llamatron and Revenge of the mutant camels the other day... :sigh:

Welcome back to the ST! I've not been back into it for long myself, but I sure am enjoying the machine again! This site can always use more ST enthusiasts!

One part I can never find is a damned external keyboard for my Mega 2 and Mega 4, and so they sit there slowly disintegrating into nothing because I can't use the damned things.

What is the port to the MB like in the mega? I'd be shocked if it weren't very similar to the ST just with an extension to a socket on the case to allow the removable kb to be unplugged. If so it would be very simple to modify up an st board in to a case and use that.

At Best Electronics in CA: CB101513R, $85.00. Perhaps they throw at this price the cable in, too. :-)

I'm in the UK, so no go really. I rarely buy things over a few bucks outside very close EU countries due to cost/things getting lost :)

Has no mouse port on Mega (both joystick D subs on keyboard) and is connected via the same curly wire as the Amiga 1000 used. The motherboard inside is hard wired to a different (higher quality) ST style keyboard so replacement is not possible. I used to use my Mega STE keyboard on them so I know the machines work perfectly. Bloody annoying!

I can sort you out with a Llamatron if you still need it.

If you are in the UK then how far away from St. Albans are you? Because Jagfest UK is this weekend and there will be truckloads of great ST stuff for sale.

I'm in Yorkshire, bit far really!

Llamatron would be good for a laugh too, not bothered about originals, they are so old now copies shouldn't be frowned upon but if they are sorry. I'm not building up a software collection to look at original boxes etc. I'm just after playing memories!

Not sure what pictures you were looking at because the stuff there is incredibly cheap. We get the whole of Nick Harlow's webshop 16/32 Systems with a special JFUK discount. Nick bought the entire inventories for several official Atari distributors and the amount of stuff he has is insane and coveres every Atari format.

If you want Llamatron then just shoot me a PM with your address and I will send you a copy.

Llamatron in particular is extremely easy to find. Just go to Minter's site and download it.

The rest of the games are pretty easy to find too. You should consider getting something like an Ultrasatan for a hard disk solution. With D-Bug and Klaz patching games for using with hard disks it gives a whole new life to the ST.

I'm after a video cable that will let me run in monochrome on an LCD telly.

Anyone know?

I have a beautiful 520STFM with 4MB upgrade, and Mono monitor. The monitor works fine, but I'd like to use the larger LCD TV from the bedroom which will be 'liberated' for use with the ST ;)

I'm in the UK
